Junior 7er pilot in slc, looking to stay. Is it better to bid 7er to lax and sea in order to stay in equipment and hopefully get back without having to go to lovely Virginia ave? Or just bite the bullet and bid to the 73n or 320?
Also what are the rules regarding displacements and any special priority in getting back to your original base when it opens again.
Thanks dudes!
I think you'll be fine, there are 100 pilots senior to you (I'm assuming they're all senior to you) but 200 A openings. That should create enough upward movement to prevent you from getting bumped. Have your MD preferences set up like Scambo recommended and cross your fingers and hope for the best. Good luck.

You're junior. Welcome to the club. I've only been through one displacement while many on here have been through displacements, furloughs and etc etc etc. just be glad you have a job. one guy I know from 2010 went through 4 schools in his first 2 years.

If you want to stay in base, only put in mandatory displacement preferences to SLC.

If you want to stay on the equipment, put in mandatory displacement preferences to the -ER at other bases.

You have reinstatement rights to the -ER for I think a year or two. Hiring is only slowing, not stopping. I doubt if you get bumped or moved from SLC -ER.

Don't use AE preferences or VD preferences in this case unless you are not already SLC-ER.
Agree with you except reinstatement right only last 180 days from your MD conversion date:

A pilot who holds an MD will, without regard to the standing bids of senior pilots, be reinstated to the category from which he was displaced if:

a. a vacancy is posted in such category and the earliest conversion date stated in the posting is within the 180 day period following the conversion date of his MD,

b. his standing bid indicates a request for such reinstatement, and

c. such vacancy has not been filled by reinstatement of a pilot senior to him who was also awarded an MD from such category.

I'm concerned about being displaced myself. I'm going to try and stay on equipment first and hope to be reinstated because of future aircraft deliveries.

I figure, in the long run (assuming I do get reinstated), it will be less time commuting than going to a full blown training course. If I do go back to school on the 767, that'll make 4 times.

I don't know if it's just me but, up until recently, I've always felt pretty academically sharp. I never thought twice about a new plane or studying. Recently, that's changed a little. Idk if I'm comfortable where I am or if I'm slipping. I simply don't have much schooling left in me. So, I fully understand staying on the jet.

Fortunately, the 777 is generally senior to the 744. So, they have to be cutting deep before they get to me. I'm hoping the A350-900 is up for bid before they close the 744.

Anyway, DAL says it doesn't have a market for the 777 but, by the numbers the A350-9 is a 777. What am I missing?

Thanks for the clarification on the reinstatement stuff.

What are you missing?

I'll tell you what you're missing. You're missing the fact that I am going to use my bazooka serum to get rid of ALLLLL of the super premium widebodies!!!!

SOON, we will be a fleet of Airbus A330s, and nothing bigger!

how big are the A350s anyways? Anybody know? Are they big, big? Or just kind of big? Are they bigger than the 717? Because if they are, what are you complaining about? CAN ANYTHING EVER BE TOO BIG? NO! .......... that's what she said. Vote Pedro for MEC Chairman.

They want Shanghai to be similar to AMS. They expect 12 to 15 flights a day from the US. Flights from Eastern cities will require two airframes. That is the main point of the A350 order. Feeding them from our US network and China Easterns network with 125 cities should make that doable.

And look at the loss of interport flying in asia! No more 5th freedom flying and look to see the loss of even MORE large widebody jobs! We can't give away a job to a JV fast enough!
