How do you guys usually do your passport renewals, mine is coming up. I know there is an office in Detroit that does it same day, but I live an hour away and don't want to kill a whole day hanging around down there while they process it.
CIBT takes 10 days by mail but you have to give up your old one. Is it kosher to fly domestic trips without it?

If you can drive an hour and renew it, do that.

IIRC, they will not issue a same day passport without a verified emergency or special circumstances and/or company intervention. There may be a hefty upcharge, but I'm not sure about that.

You're wrong. I have done it 3 times with the second passport in ATL.

I don't think they were that friendly in Dallas 2 years ago.

Quick question,

Does anyone have a suggestion for a hotel in ATL besides the Quality Inn. I will be stuck in ATL for one night later this week.

Thanks,
BFS

Have used Country Inn&Suites South. OK hotel, free breakfast. Some problems with overfill of vans in am but that might have been resolved.

Holiday Inn North (VA Ave) MIGHT give discount.

Sleep Inn South--just a room. And not much else to say about it. Free bfast which was poor quality IMO.

Priceline was a good way to go to get a pretty good room at reasonable rate. Lots of tricks to how to get best rate and others are better at this than I was.

Was based in the ATL until last year so above info may have changed.

Not that way any more. Detroit will issue you a same day passport without any proof of travel. I was going to get an passport for my daughter there, but at the last minute she wasn't going internationally, so I didn't go there.

Detroit Passport Agency

Explains it all. Expedite fee is $60 on top of the other fees. Don't know if Delta would pay for it, CPSC would know. I always just used the service Delta provides and told scheduling I was without a passport. If you don't need a visa or anything it doesn't take long.
