It was full of fail. Two guys talking. Third or fourth rate effort compared to typical NWA CBTs.

John and Martha should have been called in, not Georgia Tech...

Just be aware that, according to the contract, you can only deposit hours in excess of 80 hours. The max for one deposit is 20 hours. Sec. 12 O is the reference for full service bank if you need it.

I'm new as well. What is the bank thingy all about? What am I banking and why? Extra sick leave time?

I'll give a little explanation but the best thing to do is read the Contract under the Hours of Service Sec. 12 O.

The bank is where you can deposit extra hours you have in a month above 80 hours. (I'm pretty sure this is the amount.) You can deposit up to a maximum of 20 hours in one deposit. Your positive bank cannot exceed 60 hours total. You can go up to 30 hours in the negative if you need too. You can save these hours and withdraw them when you are going to be short in a particular month.

Here is an example. Say you are a regular line holder who has 72 hours for the month and you want to get paid for 75 hours. Go to your bank and use the withdrawal option that lets you do so and you will get paid for the extra three hours via your withdrawal.

It can really come into play if you get a greenslip. Using the above example of having credit for 72 hours, say the greenslip trigger is 75 hours and you get a 15 hour greenslip trip. Normally 3 hours of your greenslip would be paid at straight pay to get you to the greenslip trigger and the rest would be double pay (12+12 hours). But if you use your bank to cover those 3 hours up to the greenslip trigger, you now get double pay for the full greenslip (15+15 hours). Pretty big difference here!!!

Your bank is also paid at your current rate, not the rate you earned it at. This can be good or bad!

It has nothing to do with sick time.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Denny

Ok, I'll be Debby Downer...

Our situation in regard to JAL/Japan?Open Skies
"We make a bid for JAL"

Previous Narrative (Not my words):
"If we win, we get JAL and access to Haneda"
"If we loose we drove up the cost for American"
"Either way Delta comes out ahead"

New Narrative:
"With only 4 slots at Haneda and no Codeshare/JV partner in Japan our Narita operation becomes worthless, unless we get JAL we loose."

Am I missing something?
If the situation really is this precarious, where is the DAL letter writing campaign? (We have one for LGA for crying out loud)

I will do my part and write letters to my reps re Open Skies, but big picture my letter alone won't make a difference...

Where/how does Guam fit into these scenarios picture?

Cheers
George

The bank is not as necessary or frequently used as it once was, but it still has a place. In earlier years, you could only be paid the "cap" (which has been replaced as a concept by the Average Line Value (ALV)). If the cap were 77 hours, and you flew 83, you would still only get paid 77, and the rest was either carried over into the next month, or you could put it into the "bank." The limit was 60 hours.

Conversely, you could (and can) draw out of the bank up to MINUS 30.

However, the huge difference between now and earlier years is that while the ALV is still used for building your line and managing your ability to pick up time via white slip, you get paid for ALL the flying you do. So if the ALV was 77, but you flew 83...you get paid all 83.

You can choose to put any amount over 80 into the bank (up to 20 a month, I believe), but in most cases, why would you want to? Wouldn't you want to get paid right now for the flying you did, as opposed to putting it into a bank? In the past we didn't have a choice.

The bank is used for the following:

1. Buy vacation days at 3 hours per day, up to 10 extra vacation days. These are in addition to your normal annual allocation. I find this to be the most useful feature of the bank, if I want to add a couple of vacation days here and there.

2. You can also pull time out of the bank if you have a short month. In fact, if you are flying a lot one month, and anticipate not wanting to fly much the next, then the bank might be very useful if you wish to even out the paychecks. For example, if you flew 90 hours in month A, and put 10 hours into the bank, you could then withdraw those hours in any low-time subsequent month (though I would still rather get paid for the 90 hours flying sooner than later, even if that meant my paychecks were very inconsistent, but to each his own).

3. Adding up to 5 hours to your monthly totals to help with green slips, as detailed earlier.

I can answer more questions if you like, but that is the gist of it all.

Oh, now you've done it! All day Friday, people are going be posting... "it's 12:02 am - where's the bid". It's "8:01am, people are in the office now, where's the bid?"

Unfortunetly, I think ACL65 has a checkride so he *should* be studying and can't help us. On the other hand, after the checkride he'll be all over the 4th floor, maybe he can get us some good scoop.

But at least we can discuss it in detail then then.

I am not wasting my time going up there. When it is posted is immaterial. Trust me. Plus, LCA's probably do not know. (As a group, some might)

They will tinker with it until it is posted. It does not matter. Just bid correctly.

Default Delta to cut more Cincinnati service

Delta Air Lines will cut more flights from the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport by mid-February, an airline spokeswoman confirmed Tuesday.

The carrier will eliminate two flights each to Montreal, Des Moines, Iowa; and Tri-Cities (Kingsport/Johnson City/Bristol) Tenn. It will cut one flight each to Providence, R.I., and Oklahoma City, Okla.

In September, the airline cut about 50 flights out of the airport, further reducing its service. That included direct flights to London and Frankfurt, Germany. Delta announced a further 12 percent cut in November, to take place in January.

With the January and February cuts, Delta's flights from Cincinnati will fall to 180-190 from the current 215, the spokeswoman said.

Atlanta-based Delta (NYSE: DAL) operates a hub from the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.
