Can anyone explain how we are paid? What period do the two paychecks we receive on the 15th and the end of the month cover? And when is the excess above guarantee paid?

Just looking at my paychecks trying to make sense of them. Thanks.

The end of the month paycheck is half the reserve guarantee for that month. So the 4/28 paycheck we just got was half of April's reserve guarantee as found in the April bid pack. Hence the FLT ADV on the pay stub in the far left column containing most of your wages.

The middle month paycheck (5/15) is the remaining credit above that plus per diem for April. Hence FLT PAY in the far left column.

There's no distinction here between reserve vs. regular pilots. We're all paid the same way.

The New Hire Pilot Guide has a good explanation if you need more guidance. It's put out through the Mentor program.

So if you have a line worth 80 hours... Then 40 hours will be paid on the end of the month check regardless if 40 hours were flown during those first two weeks of the month or not?

If the reserve guarantee for your category in April is 75 hours, your 4/28 check would be 37.5 hours.

If you credited 80 hours for April, your 5/15 check will be 37.5 + 5 = 42.5 hours plus your per diem for April.

The end of month paycheck is an ADVANCE, thus the FLT ADV code.

The middle month paycheck is paid in arears, thus the FLT PAY code.

Actually the FLT ADVANCE pay is ALV-2 not to exceed 40. In your above example of ALV of 75 hours, the advance pay would be 35.5 and the rest would be paid on the following check.

ALV - 2 is reserve guarantee. Look closer at my example. I never mention ALV.

PWA 3.G.1 - "An end-of-month (EOM) partial payment on the last business day of the corresponding calendar month in the amount of one-half of the reserve guarantee at his composite hourly pay rate as of the date of the payment"

New Hire Pilot Guide - Page 18 under the definition of Paid in Advance - "You are paid a flight advance for ½ of the current bid period's reserve line guarantee at your composite hourly rate on the last day of the current month."

I've done the math quite a few times so I can verify these statements above.

Of note, the EOM Check uses the lesser rate of your fleet if yours have multiple pay rates for different size aircraft so use it in figuring the math.
