In the hours before the flight there will be 30HK's show up on the airport standby list and the flight will be full. The difference between booked seats and assigned seats becomes the dreaded HK's. There are a lot more booked seats without seat assignments in the last few years because the new cheap economy tickets do not allow advance seat selection. They are always HK's the day of the flight.
I get all that. I think there's also confusion about rev pax standing by for upgrades showing up on the list, as its not uncommon for there to be 50, 60+ revenue pax standing by for 2 first class seats.

In any case, the biggest PITA variable is fellow employees. Your vacation planned a year in advance can get smashed by sport listers popping up an hour before the flight. While seniority should obviously count, there should be some minimum cutoff, at least for international travel, where listing/check in carries at least some weight. To a lesser extent you see this domestically as well. DFW is a prime example, where its very common for dozens of employees to intentionally not list until shortly before the flight even though they planned on taking that flight for weeks.

There also needs to be a realistic and enforceable cutoff for S2 usage, like 24 hours prior or something. Senior employees shouldn't have unlimited ability to change their S3 to an S2 simply because someone else showed up as an S2.

Your best effort at planning things can also get sand in the gears from the people who like to list for numerous flights at the same time over multiple days. Lot of people do that, particularly for international, and that's just ridiculous. Its 2017 and the internet is everywhere; there is simply no need to do that and it makes it very hard to plan something that's already challenging to plan, for no real gain to those who do it beyond just being lazy.

Is anyone else having trouble with Deltanet after changing a password? I've had to change my password three times in the past three days. It will recognize the new password for a little while, and then it just decides not to recognize it anymore until I reset the password again.

Yes. My family and I have been hosed by people listing 2 hours prior with their families. I could see if it's an IROP and I understand it's perfectly legal. But the typical family makes vacation plans months ahead of time (if not longer.) Not very nice.

Are you changing the password in iCrew or DeltaNet? For it to be as pain free as possible, do it through DeltaNet. I believe IT knows there are porblems with syncing the password if done through iCrew.

People may list on a flight two hours prior because the flight they were planning on filled up. Or maybe they just saw a target of opportunity.

Either way, if you have a vacation that you are planning months in advance and you are counting on non rev to get there....you are foolishly optimistic.

If you are making vacation plans months in advance..................it must be an important vacation... Buy your tickets.

My wife and I got back last Sunday from a Panama Canal cruise from Miami to Seattle. I bought our tickets to Miami, set up a limo service from home to/from SeaTac/Port of Seattle cruise ship terminal. It was WELL worth it! Flights from Seattle to Miami were packed with Seattlites heading for this cruise. We did have a good time (17 days)! Funny thing is..............age wise, we were in the younger half of passengers!

Went to HNL for our anniversary. Just bit the bullet and bought first class tickets. Had we tried to non rev, we would wouldn't have gotten on in either direction....for days. If it's important. Buy a ticket or go on a positive space pass.

I'm SW Rapid Rewards member. I'm done non revving. Buy a ticket on Delta and watch a S-4 take a first class seat.

Yes. I called IT three times in 5 days. They were able to do something each time to get my password to change without resetting it. A different excuse from them each time, but they did 'fix it' each time.
