Are we really going to do this again? Some stupid rumor from some anonymous webboard and now the thrashing begins. Pretty soon this rumor will be reposted on the ALPA webboard and then it will be listed as dual sourced. Pretty soon the outrage will start, the emails will fly, and then it will be shown to be nothing but the echo chamber working again. Maybe after the fifth or sixth time this has happened you would think people would figure it out. I guess not.
The negotiators could not "entertain" this idea if they had not briefed the MEC. If they had briefed the MEC it would already be out.
This is just worthless rumor mongering.

Fear mongering or not, this will always cause us to SQUAWK. Flame away.

However, the communique from the MEC on the JAL thing was a very good step in the right direction. A little tardy but since the negotiations are still underway, a good thing.
But the explanation is quite simple. This rumor has credibility and caused "thrashing" only because people don't trust Lee Moak to hold the line on scope and because he has a record of making secret deals.
Its kinda sad that so many guys are scared of what their own MEC Chairman might do, but here we are.
Just to echo what Nu said I also talked to the 44 Chair today and his response was "hell no, not only is it a clear violation of secion 1 but it would be political suicide."

Anyone have an update on this? Just last month on Ed's online chat he said they would retire the 30/40's over the next 18 months. That would keep them flying through 2010, yes? Do you think they'll staff to have them gone, and just hire if they decide to keep them longer? Can they even plan that far out?

The plan as of two weeks ago was to keep most if not all of the remaining 30's and 40's flying through next summer then a rapid retirement in the fall with all the airframes gone by Jan 11.
Glad to hear that - the first part can be solved with a quick LOA we find out after the fact, so I'm not paying much attention to that. The "political suicide" is another matter - most elected reps like their position and don't want to be kicked out.

It was put out there by one of the credible posters on FI.
I stated a few weeks ago that this was one of my fears. Our C44 reps and elected reps are saying no way, it would be political suicide, but time will tell.
This makes a lot of sense for the company to do this. 175/195 are the same type and it costs no more to have CPS fly it.
The response is simple. Our jet, or pilot our contract. You want it flown on their cert fine. But by us at our wages.
Wonder what we think of splitting them out now?

Guys, just email your reps or pick up the phone and call them. I just did and here are the facts.
1. The company has not asked or even hinted for aircraft with more then 76 seats at DCI or Compass.

Entire rumor groundless and baseless.

Thanks for the reply sailingfun. Since it sounds like this AE will be a 365 day conversion window, & the plan is to have the 30/40's parked by January 2011, does anyone think that there might actually be a surplus on the DC9? The DC9 fleet will essentially be cut in half, so would that be accounted for in this AE?
Depends on which version of the AE you are looking at. Some have stated plenty.
Might be bigger and better than our wildest dreams. But who cares, it is what it is
Sailing,
Good to know, but they need the right jet up on a lot those LGA slots.

Better yet, some are lame ducks and will be on the line so they would have to live it.
