People who thought they were getting a bid and then did not get it would complain even though they were told it was not the final bid. It created to many headaches for them. You can however be sure they will run many bids before they make a final posting.
They want to move as many pilots as possible because now is the perfect time. They have a surplus of pilots so can keep a bunch in school and fly the schedule. The cost to do this is minimal. The majority of training costs are fixed. The portion of training costs that can flux is much cheaper when you have a surplus of pilots. If you are doing a lot of training and short then those costs go way up as the number of Greenslips explodes. It was not unusual in a heavy training time to have 5000 plus green slips a month when we had 7000 pilots.
They anticipate next winter that they will be hiring pilots. That creates lots of training events. If they are going to move people now is by far the most logical time to do it. The good news is that this bid is going to be a gain in positions. We have not seen that in a long time!!
Exactly. It sounds like they may have decided to wait until this fall to hire. Makes sense, as we will be filling the school house and new hires would just add problems to the mix. IMO a 5.7% bump allows them the time to wait until Sept or so to hire. Anything over that and we would need bodies now or we would not be completing the summer schedule. (All subject to change of course)

And Super, Alabama or Florida, which one do you want?
A gain is more positions that there are now.

They can do a lot with the AE process. The can back fill the vacancies, not back fill, add to it etc. It is my understanding that if they do not cancel a bid the posted positions are the min number of positions that will be offered, and they can add to that if they want.

Heyas New,

The off-line bidding application from the PBS vendor is free. That may be what you're thinking of.

"EasyBid", which is something completely different, is also free, but you are required to pay Flightline (the people who publish it) a fee for access to the DAL mainframe. Sort of how we used to have to pay Compuserve for access to the NWA mainframe...which we gave up, what? Six or eight years ago?

That's the nice thing about the DAL merger...every week we get a history lesson on how we USED to do things at NWA...next thing you know, we'll have to manually log our T/Os and landings...oops, never mind. Maybe they'll have us filling out the old manual pay sheets and hand computing flight plan next.

To bad we can't go back to the pay rates from 8 years ago.

It comes down to cost, and it is easier to make you do it our way than to retro fit our jets to do it your way. Maybe someday we will get to do it that way. Plus, it makes you get in to DBMS and when you go in there, you see that you have a slew of Mandatory Bulletins to read. Makes you keep current.....

honestly I want Florida because of all the hype about Florida and tebow. Every year the sports people discount Texas even though they're one of the winningest teams in the country. Just like in 05 against USC Texas was discounted and it just made the win that much better. Either team would make for a great game though. Can't wait for tonights game and the sec shootout to start!

I just hate Bama!!! I figured since Tebow, as obnoxious as he is, has won every award. Why not just root for him to win again!! Doesn't really matter. This game will just confirm that the SEC is still the football power house. Looks like the Outback Bowl for Auburn in Tampa New Years day.
