Do we get deadhead pay if we drive between airports for a layover? For example, I spent over two hours in the van going between LAX-ONT. Flew into LAX, layover in ONT, flew out of ONT the next day.

Section 8 in the contract. You get 37.50.

Exception one: Surface transportation to or from an airport for the sole purpose of lodging is not a deadhead.
Ok thanks. This made me unsure:

“Deadhead” means the surface or air transportation of a pilot between airports at the instruction of the Company.

I haven't ever been paid it on a SFO-SJC van ride with a layover in between which shows a $25 payment.

I read that and am a bit unsure. I think however it means going to a regular layover hotel. Does your time card say anything?

Nope....Surface DH only applies flying leg to flying leg. Sounds like you went to a layover so no joy. It is a classic company move in FLL/MIA, SFO/SJC/OAK and EWR/JFK/LGA.

Wow, I didn't know this... I was always wondering why I could never find the pay!

You'll get nothing and like it. Classic!

No. If you did, company wouldn’t do it.

Exactly.

My last trip had 3 of these, after each layover we never left from the airport from where we arrived. HOU-IAH, SJC-SFO, and SFO-SJC. If you include the 40 minutes we had to wait for the SJC-SFO van (we'll be there in 5 minutes, really...) I had over 4 hours of unpaid van time on my last trip. SUCK! Don't get me wrong; I'm on RES and didn't make guarantee so I didn't lose a dime, but it still sucked seeing that 13:30 layover turn into 10:50. As a line holder that's real money that just disappears into the ether.

Look for ATL to get the new nonstop to Mumbai and at least one other international route next year!
