What other new route from ATL are we talking about?
That's right... but it wasn't really anything to do with a carryout trip. If you went over the 'Cap' you picked up 'Bow wave' which could drop a trip in the next month. Spill back could be used to fill up to the cap or replenish bank. Ah, the days of no flying to FAR limits. I predicted we'd end up here someday, and here we are. Now the reroute situation is going there and soon reserve staffing will too. Time to get senior and stay there...

We still have tools available to mitigate most of that pain. Some applies to the entire seniority list, like the TLV. The company can't just run 84-85 hour ALVs all the time, even if they wanted to. Lots of other contractual tools out there to make things better as well, if pilots would just avail themselves of them.
And don't forget one VERY important point. We may not have been "flying as much" but we also had crappy rules for min pay guarantee. Every trip ending in a redeye, or dh-only duty periods, or 30 hour layovers, etc, did not get the equivalent of our ADG. Nothing like flying a three-day trip ending in a redeye, and it only paying 11 hours and change!
And of course reserves didn't get paid the same as regular lineholders like they do now. In fact on occasion I will ask newer guys, why do we have separate lines on our rotation printout for regular and reserve, when they always pay the same? Most don't know, until I inform them that until a few years ago they didn't pay the same--and often by a lot. I usually state something like "don't believe anyone when they wax poetic about some mythical good ol' days that truly weren't.

Hard to say. We have so many categories, there will always be one that is overstaffed (bid reserve and stay home) and another that is grotesquely understaffed.

There has been a tremendous increase in DAL-coded passengers flying on AM metal and a similar increase of AM- coded passengers on DAL aircraft. We asked ALPA National Economic & Financial Analysis to take a look at the growth in year one, and the results show an equitable distribution of the growth in the first year of the JV. By seats, seat-miles, frequencies and block hours, the Delta share of growth across the border was greater than 50%.

Now, why isn't Delta just saying yes to ALPA's very reasonable JV scope counter proposal?
When the DOJ ATI paper and commercial agreement are in alignment, why not be the adult in the room?
By being unreasonable Delta management is legitimizing the worst behavior of the MEC. Someone should be mature and break the cycle, MHO.

Military 707 pilot at 17 years (staying in til 20 years) that is researching & hoping to get hired by Delta since I'm already in the Atlanta area.
I've read through a few threads on the typical schedule for a Delta pilot and it seems 3 or 4 day trips are the norm. However I've also read about "narrow body" or 717s having shorter trips. From what I've researched that you get paid less for a schedule like that, but if I already have a military retirement then I'd personally rather focus on quality of life over maxing out the pay scale.
My question is can you (once you get a bit of seniority) bid on shorter 2 day trips or short haul out and backs to be home more? Rather than having half the month off can you work more days but do shorter trips like that instead?
