Is there any incentive to do a VD, or is it just a 'Nice Guy' thing to do?

That is one-half the fleet (34 out of 68). All other things being equal, that alone will generate 340 displacements (currently 677 DC-9 pilots).

Wouldn't that be under the assumption that ZERO guys bid off the DC9? I mean, either way there will be a surplus so I guess my question is moot.

Absolutely. If you are in a shrinking category, and don't want to end up on reserve, this may be the only way to get out of that category.

I don't know how this AE stuff works. 340 guys or so will be displaced from the -9 because the slots are going away. Now, do they got to their AE preference or their MD preference? Do you need to list upgrades (like 744 A) on your MD list in order to have a shot at it? DAL-S guys?

If you are certain you're going to be MDed (ie, they are displacing 200 Captains, and you are 50 from the bottom...you might be getting displaced...) then do not put anything in your AE. Only use the MD - if you're MDed you get moving expenses. Someone else can chime in on whether AEs or MDs are run first, I can't remember.

If you want to displace to DTW744A, you need to have it on your MD list. There is a provision that if you have no MDs listed and you get displaced, you are assumed to want the highest paying equipment in your base.

I thought I read that if you don't have preferences and you are displaced then you are fodder for whatever they want to give you.
