You can get there if you want to be on reserve, but moving up to good schedules can take a long time. It is also not the most commuter friendly base with all the RJ's doing most of the west coast flying and lots of early morning trips. The 320 might have more commutable stuff than the 88 does, but we'll see.

Basically, it's junior if you want to be on reserve, senior if you want good schedules, great if you live here, and an RJ nightmare if your going to commute from anywhere other than LAX.
Getting to SLC even from LAX is a pain. Half the flights are RJs and everything is full, full, full.

In DAL, I heard reserves can pick-up trips from open time. Can someone explain the process? (Can I pick up 2 days in advance, can I pick up trips on my off days and trade in my reserve available days etc..). Thanks in advance.

If you mean in advance, no. The trips that are in open time can be picked up or traded by line holders up until the morning before. The morning before scheduling assigns trips to reserve pilots and thats when a reserve pilot can request which trips they'd prefer to fly if they have to fly.

Its kind of like bidding and first dibs go to the pilot with the lowest raw who is next up. But just like everything if you're available for four days they're not going to give you a day trip or two-day, you get to pick one of the four day trips and if there are no 4-days, and they have sufficient coverage, then you probably get short call or nothing because they're saving you for a 4-day if one pops up. I think they'd have to be very desperate to allow you to do anything less than a 4-day if you're available for 4 days.

Otherwise, the rest of the time is just saying you're willing to come in and fly on your day off for any trip (or any trip that meets parameters or for only a specific trip) that pops up same day or is open time for the next.

Its all spelled out in the PWA and they just go right down the rules in there as they assign trips.

Anecdotally, what are you guys hearing?
I'm hearing that alot of guys are wanting to stick it out on this first bid and not bid the md90 because they dont want the full course and the 2 year seat lock with more AE's on the horizon. Some will bid it imho but i dont think you'll see a huge shift from the DC9 guys to the 88 category.

its going to happen in either of 2 ways, most guys bid it because they live in base and figure why not a slight pay bump and better trips. This will Cause the MSP DC9 category to go junior (or make DTW go more junior as DTW dc9 guys shift to MSP)

OR

Guys stay put not wanting to get the lock figuring its not worth the training time and slight pay raise thus causing the MSP 88 category to go junior.

This whole bid has major WHAT IFS and there will be alot of unforeseen ripple effects i'm sure.

Thank you....it looks very similar to previous NWA reserve rules.

That's all correct, but I would add that there seems to be a lot of Scheduler "discretion" as to what person they pick for what trip. My experience was that they often would give you a trip you didn't want that was shorter than your days of availability... and often they wouldn't.

Add to that the fact you can't figure out who is legal for what simply by looking at the Reserve Availability List. You'd have to look at individual schedules to understand who was legal for what, and you still couldn't figure out who the Scheduler would actually pick.

Same was true for making Short Call preferences: you get SC when the Scheduler decides you will get SC. Period.

Here is what you need to know about the Reserve System, and pretty much all you get to find out, since transparency is not a concern:

1) Seniority allows you to bid initial days off, and pretty much nothing else.
2) You will often get thiiiiiis close to the reserve guarantee. Sometimes you'll hit 67 hours, and, perversely, you'll get a trip that takes you to 70:06 flying rubber dog sh** to Hong-Kong, while someone junior to you will chill out at home.
3) You will either be flying, or on Short Call. Long Call is a sort of legend passed around by the older crews, to the amazement of current crews.

This need to be addressed NOW. The company's schedulers should NOT be permitted to make a judgment call to abrogate OUR seniority. Why have we let this continue for so long???

Can't find anything anywhere except from two people on APC that this is the case. I guess the big news of CAL getting wifi on the 16th overshadowed the SOC signing on Deltanet and the Tiger Woods saga has Yahoo news all tied up.

I just want to see the official news it's signed because if it is delayed we all have to wait longer to see the results of this dang bid that has us all losing sleep at night.
