OK looks like somebody got this out three pages ago. As you were...

JAL Agrees Tie-up Deal With Delta: Report - ABC News

TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan Airlines (JAL) has agreed on a tie-up with Delta Air Lines that will mean JAL joins the SkyTeam airline alliance, dropping its membership of the Oneworld alliance, a Japanese newspaper said on Saturday.

JAL and Delta agreed the deal in Tokyo on Friday, the Yomiuri newspaper said, and plan to complete the switch by April 2011.

As JAL heads for bankruptcy, Delta and American Airlines have been courting it with rival offers of financial aid, eager to gain access to routes to fast-growing Asian markets and to get a stronger foothold in Japan.

Japan's state-backed Enterprise Turnaround Initiative Corp of Japan (ETIC) has estimated that an alliance with Delta would give JAL an annual benefit of 17.2 billion yen ($189 million), three times more than expanded ties with American would offer.

Delta will continue to discuss with ETIC how much it will invest in JAL, the Yomiuri said. The two companies will apply to the U.S. government for anti-trust immunity by mid-February, the newspaper said.

Appears that a lot of the things we have been talking about have been put in to play. Next week to eight should result in some interesting things here at DAL.

From Richard's online chat responses in regards to JAL; it sounded like it was in the bag.
Talking like we should win it, and public confirmation are a lot different. Sould be an interesting year.
Never too soon to start talking about the next bid, or displacement cancellation ... and what this means for staffing.

I'd think there are already pretty detailed plans.
Quote: According to the memo we will be @ 28 MD90's making us the 2nd largest operator behind Saudi Airlines who operates 29. I think DAL will soon be the largest operator of the MD90.
Not to rain on the parade, but I recall, in years past, Delta proclaiming to be "the world's largest operator of the A310". A couple of years later they were all gone.

That being said, I welcome any additional mainline airframes showing up on our doorstep. The MD90 will be a great stopgap, until Boeing builds it's nexgen narrowbody.

Well I don't know the history of the A310's, but the MD90 is a cheap aquisition and is the most efficient narrowbody in the combined DAL/NWA fleet. With domestic currently being king, and DALs newly aquired hubs it seems the MD90 will have the fit that was intended when they were first bought. MSP is a nice feed point for either coast, and the MD90 can reach both sides of the country from there.

I agree that the MD90 will provide a nice stopgap until Boeing builds it's nexgen narrowbody, but to be honest we may not wait that long. If Bombardier can get a nice C Series jet out there we may see them get the order first. Boeing is a loooong way from making any kind of new narrowbody.

I also think the cheap price tag combined with the efficiency of the MD90 will allow us to fly it half full and still make $$$.

Just some of my thoughts, of which I'm sure none are correct!
OK, let's start getting some opinions here.

With JAL dropping international routes, do you guys really think we will get any of them? I mean, I could see the Japanese govt giving a bunch to ANA to keep it in country.

Plus, what would JAL be flying that we weren't already? Unless this deal somehow gets us some more access to Haneda that other US carriers don't have, what good is it for the pilots? I realize it can be good for the company because it will further increase our destinations and possibly our income/profit(which is clearly good for us) but from a flying standpoint does anyone see a potential increase in WB flying as a result of this?

Anyone chime in please. Alfa, sailingfun, PG, slowplay, modelcitizen, sinkr8, ACL65, etc............lets hear it!
Speaking of Health Benefits... (Several pages ago, but who can keep up) Did anyone else not get cards for 2010 Dental coverage? I looked at ESS to make sure I had coverage, and I did, but could not for the life of me find a way to print some out myself. If the manual philosophy is "one place right place" (not even going to start on that one) then IT must work on the "Somewhere out there" philosophy.

I guess they could run a clean up bid that could be considered the MOAB of all clean up bids, a MOACUB if you will.

Civilians can play the over the top acronym game too.
