Doubt it. Just something that I was told a few months ago. Mine has done the same in the past.

JAL chooses Americdan

Press release from JAL:

Japan Airlines and American Airlines Strengthen Partnership and Apply for Approval of Antitrust Immunity
Today, Japan Airlines (JAL) announced the decision to strengthen its partnership with American Airlines (AA). The carriers, both members of the oneworld alliance, will jointly apply to the U.S Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Ministry of Land Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan (MLIT) for the approval of antitrust immunity (ATI) on transpacific routes.

Upon receiving the approval from the relevant authorities, JAL and AA intend to enter a joint business venture which will enhance their scope of cooperation on the routes between the United States and Japan, through adjustments to their respective networks, flight schedules, and other business activities, allowing both carriers to better complement each other to develop and offer competitive products and quality service to their customers.

The JAL Group Chief Operating Officer and president, Mr. Masaru Onishi said on this occasion: "We have analyzed this issue in great detail, and we are excited at the prospects in terms of the convenience and benefits for our customers. We also firmly believe that the advantages of this development with American Airlines can strongly support JAL at a time when we are striving towards the revival of our business, which we are determined to achieve. We certainly look forward to a deeper, more mutually-beneficial relationship with our long-time partner."

As JAL undergoes the process of reorganization, it will seize the opportunity presented by this partnership to strengthen its network and further improve its offerings. From hence forth, in addition to the joint business agreement with AA, JAL will also fortify its relationships with other partners in the oneworld alliance, so as to provide customers a comprehensive range of products and services, and become once again, the airline of customer's choice.

END

Well there I was over in Asia back in January reading from the usual "in crowd" of relative new hires (hired within the last three years or so) tell us all how Anderson and et all were on their way to Japan and of the ensuing press conference of our new venture with JAL. For those of us that have been here longer I say what I was told years ago by a seasoned vet, don't believe it until it's painted in your colors and your rear end is flying it. The guys on this thread that profess to know really don't. I know they are only trying to connect the dots. Well maybe they should turn the page around.

Your opinion is appreciated.

The cards were reshuffled about three weeks ago. This game is far from over.

ACL,

Nothing against you but the game is never really over. I just think rampant speculation regardless of good intentions does little service to the pilot group. Better to see how the chips fall and plan from there. In the end we'll all be fine as long as there is a management team in place that wants to run an airline. Fortunately for us that is the case at Delta.

I ask because they're once again canceling flights for the NYC area. I can understand ATL, but LGA and JFK - don't they have snow plows etc?????

There is a new focus on ramp delays with the press that has resulted in a new law being passed. Plan on aggressive cancelations as a result of the actions of Congress in passing this law.

I just hope that all the cancellation announcements go something like this: Due to the congressional passage of the Passenger Bill of Rights, Delta has decided to cancel all flights in advance of the weather in order to ensure that no passengers are inconvenienced by a late departure/arrival at your destination. When the weather breaks, your tickets will still be honored, and you will be accommodated as soon as practicable. Thank you for your understanding.

That would be good assuming anyone reads those things. The storm prior to Christmas resulted in LGA looking like a refugee camp. Too many people and no place to sit etc.

That is what this board is for. Entertainment and a little bit of "what if-ing"

A few major changes within JAL changed the way this game was being played. Fear seems to be ruling the day. As I have said, the ETIC need to approve this decision. They are in their version of CH11. Those trustees and their major debtholders need to approve this decision. That is in reality the Japanese government which has favored DAL.

I also think it does serve the pilot group well. Whatever the outcome those that read and post on this board are better informed. Part of the issue with our group is lack of information and lack of education by many of the members. There has and will be great debate of the pros and cons of any possible deal with our airline and our group. This is a good medium to swap viewpoints and possible advantages and disadvantages of each possibility.

In the end the speculation and back and forth allows a good chunk of the guys on here and those that read to become better informed about the hows and whys and the effects each option have on them and the airline.

If this topic was not discussed, most would wake up today and not realize the gravity of the decision that JAL has made and the implications for them as well as us.

If they are going to CNX a bunch of flying, they need to make sure they cancel the flights inbound as well.
