Widebody FOs with cushy jobs may be pussies but they're smart pussies unlike the guys tooling around 5 legs a day to places I wouldn't send my mother in law.
Lot's of little upgrades like digital pressurization, radios, radar, but still the blue paint. Looks like the control room of Dr. Nemo's submarine.

5 legs a day are pretty rare, if you do it's usually within a one state radius. It's all personal, and left seat in the sweat-hog is way better than right, and either seat at NWA/DAL is way better than an RJ, although by some of the comments you'd think some would prefer to be back on their boy-jets.

Also I don't think there will be displacements into the DC9 (Bastian/Haustein) said at NALPA MEC meeting no furloughs) and NWA pilots cannot bounce you out of sesat in normal bidding. Worst will be some stagnation, but most junior DAL pilots will fare far better down the road in 10, 15 yrs than their NWA counterparts.

I fly the A330 out of DTW....I personally like the base/equipment/ & crews....I look forward to working with the new Delta and I am happy to be part of it all..........
Of course your happy, you have no chance of getting displaced off of the 330 and going to the -9 while a large group of our wide-body FO's will be displaced to the -9.

Plan for the worst, hope for the best. Isn't it what we all told the psychologist during Delta interview!?
Couldn't agree more, Life. Perspective is *****ing about stuff like this and then watching the news and seeing the guy in San Diego who just had an F-18 land on top of his house and take out his entire family, and then at a new conference call the pilot one of America's heroes. Makes one feel pretty bad about even bringing this stuff up at all.

I understand the pre-merger NWA pilots being defensive about their bases and airplanes. Truly, I'll fly what I'm told to fly wherever I'm told to fly it with a smile. I think I'm more worried about furloughs than anything.

Careful Rocky, you're about to be branded junior, whiny, and downright scared to fly the thing.

Notice how many responses I got when I called the -9 a bad word but nothing on the example of how displacements would favor the current -9 FOs.

Better just to let it go.

Ralphie,

There were plenty of comments from both sides of the aisle prior to the list coming out. They led to nothing but ill feelings on both sides. The arbitrators saw fit to come down with the decision that they did and there is nothing anyone can do about it now. It is water under the bridge/over the dam. Try to look at the glass as half full, you will lead a much more satisfying life. We all know what life is like on the bottom of the list and the uncertainty of being there......we were there once.

FWIW with the POO being what it is, I don't see the 9 going away until at least 2012. Hopefully the economy will be recovered by then and your position will be solidified by retirements and, dare I say, growth (at least replacement) aircraft.

Now........where is my Shirley doll.......mad cow kickin' in!!!

You've seen a lot of pre-merger Delta pilots complain about the comparative quality of jobs being brought to the marriage, but you don't see the same from the NWA side. Is that because it's just so much better of a group that they'd never resort to such pettiness or because in reality they have no such complaint?

Rise above the name calling, my new Delta brother, and get off of the junior vs. senior thing; it has no bearing on opinion and honest discourse. If you have some seniority and want to think of junior folks as second class citizens that's your call but it just makes you look like an ass.
That's not even a freshman attempt at changing the subject - which doesn't surprise me. The subject is YOUR name calling of the DC-9 as a "dying pig." That fact that you don't see the problem with that and still justify it, shows me that you're not worth responding to.

Don't dare compare yourself to the many honorable junior pilots on our seniority list. You're not one of them.

Carl

Come back when you understand all of this........

I flown domestic (NB) for 12 years... and you..?

The A330 is not a protected aircraft....
And I would hope no one gets displaced from their seat ...Not even a New Hire who has his own view of entitlement....

NO. We just know how to man up and move on. You are welcome for the leap frog by the way.

Ralphie,

I am very junior too.
Life is all about understanding the alternatives..

What's the alternative for DC-9 drivers displacing us? Not to move airplanes - no, that's the business, "they should have put us 3000 numbers higher on the list (because we belong to generation "success" who never worked for anything in their lives)" - no, not fair. ...

CVG76 pilots displacing CVG73 pilots? That's because they are more senior. How else would you suggest things should happen? Without telling our execs how to run the business in an empty airport.

What's the alternative in the F18 crash? Should have he stayed with the plane? He did the right thing to survive and fight another day and protect your and mine freedoms. And just because he is in the military he is a hero enough for me.

We got to think more about us as a group, not individually. Stay together and when time comes let's take a good contract.

It'll work out. DC-9 makes good pilots!

Thanks for the info. I wouldn't be too hard on the junior DL guys. Most are probably raising families trying to get some stability in their lives and now the company pretty much has free reign screw with people.

I'm not junior but the predominant feeling is that a lot more fencing was required to let the dust settle without a wholesale disruption of lives. Especially on the 757/767, 76ER categories. We see displacements from larger equipment on the horizon as new categories come in, less pay, indefinitely delayed left seat upgrades, possible commuting etc. The biggest thread on the DALPA forum is titled "How badly did you get screwed?" Guys on both sides should be able to vent and hopefully move on from there.
