Uh... yes, let me go double check but I did remember it being time limited. This should only take a few hours.

I choose the MD88 for several reasons, primarily because I wanted the most junior platform. At the time everybody thought I was crazy and said I should have picked something else. Within weeks I started feeling like the "black sheep" of the industry.

That said, I wouldn't change things for anything. To each there own, but the type of flying we do is awesome. I think the longest flight I've been on was a little over 3 hours. Personally, I can't imagine being a cruise any longer than that. With the MD88 we have so many more layover destinations than larger equipment, which, to me, makes every trip different and more enjoyable.

Also, I really enjoy the peculiarities of the MD88. You really have to watch the thing. It doesn't always do what you want it to do which keeps you busy and on your toes. I imagine the DC-9 is very similar. I tell you, if/when the day comes that I can bid the DC-9FO I'll be there. The best shot for a junior guy to have any sort of relative seniority is generally in the most junior aircraft. Sure the dials up front may not look like the space shuttle (ie A320, 737) but chicks dig more buttons, gauges and switches. At least that's the story I'm going with.

About 30 from the bottom of 12,400 pilots and not complaining,

Regards,

Ranger
Great post and i agree. I was on the DC9 first and really enjoyed the flying and the trips. People talk down about the DC9 but it really is a blast to fly. I switched to the bus mainly for family reasons and honestly i miss flying the Diesel 9

Okay, these are Forgot to Bid notes... they could be wrong and they were not cut and pasted from the pwa: (mind you I didn't take good notes in college, I doodled and lovingly stared at the hot girl one row forward of me... thank you big SEC school)

Pilots Who Are Displaced
i)Pilots get a 30 day notice from DAL of the conversion date of his displacement. The displacement will not be rescinded prior to the 30 day conversion date without the pilots permission.
ii)A pilot who holds a MD will, without regard to the standing bids of senior pilots, be reinstated to the category from which he was displaced if:
(1)A vacancy is posted in such category and the earliest conversion date stated in the posting is within the 180 day period following the conversion date of his MD,
(2)His standing bid indicates a request for such reinstatement, and
(3)Such vacancy has not been filled by the reinstatement of a senior pilot who was also awarded an MD from such category.
iii)Insufficient MD Preferences
(1)A pilot whose standing bid does not contain sufficient MD preferences as of the closing date and time of the posting and is displaced will be assigned the next lower position at his base and if the pilot is not senior enough to hold a lower position at his base will at the Company option be assigned into any position at another base that his seniority would permit him to hold.

A stint in the DC9 would be good for you. Perhaps it would help shake your condescending, sense of entitlement attitude. You have the NERVE to complain about the POSSIBILITY of getting displaced to the DC9 while this industry has thousands of pilots on the street. No, that doesn't make you look bad at all.

Is that because it's just so much better of a group that they'd never resort to such pettiness or because in reality they have no such complaint?
I think it's because you can't see past your own nose. I lost a TON of movement due to NW attritions which would have put me in a CA seat in less then 10 years. But I'm moving on. I WILL NOT lose 20+ years of my life whining about how I got screwed by the merger. You might want to consider doing the same. You ought to be grateful NW is bringing a 100 seat airplane back to DL mainline. It's gives us a chance to retain it.

......but it just makes you look like an ass.
Pot, meet kettle. You might get displaced from the 767. It will be due to seniority. That's the airline industry, welcome to it. If you don't like, GET OUT! Your not the only one who lost "Career Expectations" By the way Spliff, didn't you get banned?

As one of the displaced CVG 73N folks, does this mean I get to go back to the 73 if a vacancy is offered anywhere, or only in CVG??

As Ranger said, I'm very near the bottom and D@mn glad to be here on whatever equipment Mother D wants me in.

- No sense of entitlement here, I've said it would be naive to think one could stay on a wide-body as a junior pilot after a merger of over 12000 pilots. I like the reference to the thousands of pilots on the street, as if you spend any time thinking about them. That's rich. I was one, so save the political speeches.

- When did I ever say I think I got screwed? I just said I didn't like it, and that's called honesty. There is a difference, you know. If that isn't obvious to you, maybe you should consider whether or not you're aware or intelligent enough to respond. You seem to be the type that enjoys ranting and name-calling, a function of the anonymity of these types of forums. You're entitled to it, but it's more in favor over at flightinfo.

- I've already acknowledged all of this. You obviously have trouble remembering more than the last sentence you read. Or you enjoy just picking out whatever you think you can twist or misrepresent, in some desparate search for satisfaction. I can't relate.

I don't want to tell you the wrong thing, but I think by category it would be CVG 73N B. So if there is an opening for CVG 73N B and you'd be converted within 180 days of you being converted into your displaced category (your new category) then you get it before someone senior to you.

Someone with a little more tenure want to double check that this is the right interpretation?
...
I accidently messed up the quoting system. Kind of like messing up VNAV. It won't work if you mess it up.

Ralphie,

I NEVER quoted you as saying you got screwed. I said I wasn't going to lose 20 years of MY life complaining over how I got screwed. You might want to read the post before you respond. Talk about awareness! And how do you know whether I do or don't think about the furloughed pilots of today. FYI, I do think about them. It reminds me how fortunate I am to have a job, even if it is a DC9. Heaven forbid.

BTW, you might want to read your own post. You insult my intelligence, and then tell me my posts are more fit for FI. Again, pot...meet kettle.
