LGA Swap

The decision is total horse @#$@#.

How long do you think Airways is going to hang out waiting for them to actually come back with a fair decision?

What's stopping Airways from putting together a deal where their mainline slots go directly to Southwest and the "commuter" slots go to Eagle? Splits things up a bit and "the man" can save face by saying it was a better deal in the eyes of competition.

I don't see us spending a lot of time fighting this, but I wouldn't be disappointed if I were wrong for principals sake.

Is the mutated deal still worth it for Airways compared to what they might be able to get otherwise?

Deal not approved?...... Goldman Sachs is probably short DAL.

I guess this means the hiring rumors are off the table. Should we be worried about furloughs now?

Dickson letter is out!!!! 240 slots coming!!!

Not necessarily "new" hires... furlough bypass guys have first dibs on the slots...

With the first 29 slots per month to Mesaba/Compass and furlough bypass peeps, not going to be too much room for off the street guys...

I have to think otherwise... DAL went up against the DOT with the proposed JFK/EWR slot auction, and this is not the first time the DOT wanted to auction slots at LGA either. Maybe DAL will wait until the HND ruling before deciding a course of action, but I'd be surprised if DAL takes this one lying down.

At issue is whether those slots actually "belong" to us, since we paid for them, or whether we just bought the right to use them, with the DOT having the authority to repossess them, and force an auction.

Of course SWA would outbid anyone for the slots, and you could bet that they would buy all of them. How this is 'good for competition' is hard to fathom, but I'm sure it's good for someone... who wears a suit and works in Washington DC.

We've fought this battle before, and won. This is not just a sidebar to our operation, this is the core of our business. This is the largest air market in the entire world. And ultimately, this is about the freedom to engage in a legal, profitable enterprise in the United States of America, also known as capitalism.

No way we roll over on this.

Another good thing in the Dickson letter was the reversal of the push down to narrow body flying. He stated increased widebody staffing....Good news.

Haneda access and perhaps a proffer to merge with Alaska are two reasons we may not fight this. It's all about choosing their battles. But at some point this dog will bite.

Hiring!! Ftw!!

Cycle Pilot 05-04-2010 03:45 PM

How many pilots do we have on furlough bypass right now? Do the Mesaba/Compass pilots get stapled when hired?

Mesaba/Compass pilots who flow up to DAL start at the bottom of the seniority list just like new hires. No credit of any kind for longevity. So you have nothing to worry about.
