This doesn't surprise me at all. There is more at stake here than 20 slots. The DOT action sets a very bad precedent.

Curious where msp falls in the senoirty system? Any of you delta gentelman care to provide that info. I love the cold... seriously I do. Trying to avoid commuting to the east coast.
If the DC-9s stay in MSP, then I'd say your chances are really great.

If not, then it depends. Best bet would be to bid something like the -88 that is in MSP and hope to slide over on a subsequent AE.

Nu,
Agreed. I am glad that they are going to fight this. We need to.

I suspect the 320 msp may shrink and the 90 will grow.

It is a crap shoot. Lots of options will be around.

Glad to have the hiring - it's nice to have some people underneath us junior peeps. It is nice to be able to recommend people who we think are really qualified.

Just really wonder how many "new" hires we'll actually see. Like ACL said, now that the bypass guys have the combined seniority list to pad them and offer more base/seat options, I would surmise that we will only see around 50-80 new bodies (based on 240 slots).

When they hired last time it hosed up the system greatly when they had the classes of 50 two weeks apart; then again we have both DAL-N and DAL-S "new hire systems".

SO, if there are 100 a month that can start since we have double the sims and instructors, that is 2 and a half months.

That is 87 from the flows. (20/mo CPZ, 9/mo MSA)

Its all up to the bypass guys if we see ANY off the street pilots.
If 150 bypass guys elect to come back ASAP, they will eat up the first month and a half; leaving 58 slots for flows (2 months' worth).

That only leaves 32 slots out of 240 for off the street guys......

That'll be some serious competition, I can see the panel interview now:
How many Space Shuttle landings do you have?
Oh, ok none? Well then how many tours did you do as the CO of the Thunderbirds/Blue Angels?
Oh, so you're related to Richard Anderson how again?

Shiz;
Lets make a wager. Do you think we will hire more or less than 240?

I hope 2011 is a banner year and they are scrambling with 100 a month in February!

I do not have all the answers nor all of the data, but 240 is uber conservative. My hunch is that we will see more than that, but we need to start with at least 240 and the reevaluate this Sept and then again in Dec, and March to the numbers needed for next summer and beyond.

Either way it will be conservative so that if the economy tanks we are not throwing bodies in the sea to save the ship. After 2011 it will at a min be a steady stream.

I am glad to see us doing this now. It show forward thinking and will allow the pipeline time to get the correct bodies in the correct seats.
