A pilot’s bid preference for an AE will not be awarded if the award, together with any VD/MD(s) for the same category, would create a surplus that would cause a displacement in the
category. In other words, a pilots VD or MD bid into a category will supersede a more senior pilot's AE bid to that category.

Moral of that story is if you want to move positions, your VD bids should match your AE bids just in case. And always, always have a MD bid in........again, just in case.

A question for anyone flying the B767-400 out of NYC while commuting to reserve. What are the trips like? Are all the trips out of JFK? How hellish is it? Just trying to get a feel for the operation. Thanks.

Lets see, out of atl, I know the -9 goes to:

Flint, Grand Rapids, Dayton, & ORD

I think it sometimes goes to:

MKE & Norfolk.

-----------

WHAT!!! Why don't those cities just go to the -9?

DC8, nothing new here.

The shiznit thinks that with over 10,000 posts you can speak in the 3rd person!!!:D

I'm on the Mad Dog, does that count as a DC-9?

The MD will put hair on your chest, but the DC-9 will put hair on other people's chest just by walking by its gate and looking at it!

You can pull up the bid package on DLNET if you want to see the trips. The wide report can also give you an idea of what you would be looking at in terms of a line of time.

Personally, I've looked at it, and even if you are senior, there seem to be a few problems with the category, namely, the LHR trips are only worth about 15 hours, and many of the trips are seasonal, begging the question: "where will it go in the winter months?" The 67-400, more than any other airplane at DL, seems to be constantly in search of a "home". This may mean, as others have said far more eloquently than I could, that it will be a nomad, moving around the system as demand, er, um, demands.

Commuting to NYC... it can be done, but it ain't always pretty. At least on the -400, you are only looking at JFK as your "base". Commuting to reserve is a MISTAKE, avoid it if your seniority allows you to.

Still looking at it, but I'm going to give it another year before I consider bidding it. New categories = total uncertainty. Same goes for the SEA 7ER.

flyallnite,

Thanks for the reply concerning the nyc 767-400 base. I've been commuting for 25 years to DTW but the NY base is closer. Leaning toward staying where I am at for all the reasons you mentioned.

Thanks Denny,

And I guess it makes sense that VD's get processed before MD's. So, it seems like the order is: VD's,MD's then AE's.....

Never mind. I'm confusing myself. :o

Respectfully disagree. If DAL replaces the 787 for a 777, then those 777 seats go to FNWA pilots. The key word will be replacement or new aircraft.

If DAL buys new 777 without replacing the 787 order then those seats go to FDAL.

As promised, I am ready to eat some crow.....what type of hot sauce goes good with crow?

It's hard to tell right now as you really need some kind of history to be able to evaluate a category. No telling what will happen to the trips in the fall winter period. The commute out of ATL hasn't been bad- I haven't had to buy a hotel room yet. But, and I say a big BUT, the 400 is going to offer very limited options as far as open time goes.
