Why do I think that Ray LaHood would've pulled Delta's certificate over this:

Three hundred travelers started the summer with a travel nightmare that they will not soon forget.

Even before the Virgin Atlantic flight left London’s Heathrow Airport, there were problems. The generators were not working, so neither was the air conditioner, passengers said. The flight was supposed to leave at 5:33 p.m., London time. Two hours later, with the plane fixed, the flight took off for Newark.

But problems arose again on Tuesday night because of storms in the New York area. The airline needed to divert the plane. With no option to land at JFK, it landed in South Windsor at Bradley Airport, the company said.

When the plane landed on the tarmac, the generators went for the second time, passengers said. With no fresh air coming in, temperatures reached about 100 degrees, they said.

For four hours, they sat on the plane. During the ordeal, pilots exceeded their maximum flight time and the plane had to stay grounded.

Andrew Porwancher, of Princeton, New Jersey, said people were fainting. One passenger was taken to a hospital, but airline officials said there is no evidence to link this with the flight.

Passengers were eventually brought into a terminal, where they waited at least two more hours for their luggage and instructions on how they would eventually get to Newark.

Virgin Atlantic officials said Bradley Airport is not equipped to deal with international arrivals, so Virgin Atlantic had to wait for U.S. Immigration and Customs to arrive to process the passengers.

The flight was scheduled to reach Newark at 9:10 p.m. on Tuesday. Passengers just began boarding buses at about 8:30 Wednesday morning -- nearly 12 hours later -- to be taken to Newark Airport.

Peter Blok, of Philadelphia, called the trip “hell on wheels.”

The airline apologizes for the frustration and inconvenience this has caused for the passengers.

“The safety and welfare of our passengers and crew is of paramount importance,” Virgin Atlantic said in a written statement.

The delays frustrated not only the passengers desperately waiting to get off the Virgin Atlantic plane in Connecticut, but those waiting to get out of Newark on the airline as well.

Eva Shah may not even make her own wedding. Shah was supposed to fly Virgin Atlantic to Mumbai, but the Newark flight she needed to take to connect in Heathrow to complete the trip to India has been delayed 23 hours, her future brother-in-law, Justin Holmes, told NBCNewYork. Holmes said the airline will only offer Shah a refund and will not transfer her to a more expensive flight.

The airline couldn't immediately be reached for comment on that matter.

Using a international pilot to cover domestic flying is step 29 out of 30 on the coverage ladder. THey have to have exhausted every other option including every type of GS and inverse assignment before they can to to the international side.

Uh uh, and I know your feelings on the subject. They still manage to do it anyway don't they?

Default Single Engine Taxi

For 80...

Sometimes this single engine taxi thing that you like to beat up fNWA crews on is not as black and white as you think.

From the MEM 10-7A

Special Notes:
No single engine taxiing in the alleys, inside of Spots One and Three.

This is a lot of the gates that we use on the DC-9 in MEM

Also, on the APU issue, above a certain temp, MEM ramp will advise us to run the APU at the gate to supplement the conditioned air. Something to do with the external air system at some of the older gates.

While I agree with you that we should save gas when we can, I just wanted to point out that everything you see is not just crews ignoring policy.

Ha, very funny Mister...

First problem was a lose hose hitting the fan the second problem is no refrigerant. It's a fridge from star trek and neat to see but it don't work. Problem is it takes a week plus to get a repairman out, I guess they're busier than advertised.

Mem, I think 80s specific issue was taxing two engines in atl and then leaving the plane with the ext air and APU air running. It wasn't about doing right by the passengers or ramp needs as that's a given. I'd say if the ext air is inadequate on some gates in MEM then run the APU but complain because someone can run a cost analysis to see if it's cheaper to run the APU or fix it.

I think your confusing trip coverage with reroutes. They are 2 very different animals. I have been told the reroute situation is going to grievance and its highly likely we will win. Sadly the process takes time.
There have been no issues with initial trip coverage. The company is not illegally covering domestic trips with international crews.
