Nah, I think he's just saying... stuff. Tsquare's a little exciteable this morning, talking AAI furloughs etc., short sentences and all. I guess he's just a little surprised like everyone else.
Think about this for a second.
I live in the southwest United States and I fly Delta more often than not. I typically fly on RJ's either out of ATL or through ATL.
Now, SWA comes into town. 737's to everywhere I previously flew on an RJ. And, the frequent flyer awards to a free ticket are easier to attain.
What the eph do you do now if you are RA?
A 100 seat jet is starting to look more important now.
Plus, it is not going to be long that my pilots will be making more and more noise about their pay rates vis a vis SWA's as they see same or smaller a/c operating out of the same market making significantly mo' dough.

If you read the Flight Global interview and look at the talk from RA over the last six month, I think you can conclude the same thing. No more bad words on the C-Series, and in reality he has really been talking that aircraft up. I believe that he and other have seen this coming for some time.
I think most are finally stating, finally instead of when. Now they can go after it and not the idea.
Just to play "devils advocate" here for a second. But why would the DOT be more inclined to approve the DAL/USAir slot swap? There will still be the same amount of carriers in DCA and the same relative distribution of slots with those carriers. LGA will be a little different but I don't think it's going to be as easy as some think.

I think Manager brings up a good point about the importance of large airplanes, from the standpoint of offering a better product, but I ahve a question... if we're fielding a RJ on a route, and LUV fields a 737... who loses the most money?
It does, but AMR also needs another operator with an international presence. LLC comes to mind for the Atlantic, and MKS for SA.
If AMR does beat out DAL for AS, DAL will either have to buy Virgin to compete out there or buy a ton of jets. We need to feed our flights.
So, as I see it we get AS or AMR gets AS and we are forced in to buying B6 and putting half of their jets out west to feed our Asia flights, or we buy Virgin America and let them feed our Asia flights.
My bet is on that DAL has a case for the "need' to buy AS since they feed more flying for us that AMR. If we win that, AMR will need to buy NKS, and LLC. Virgin will cease to exist.
What we are seeing is what should have happened after Deregulation. Large carriers with broad scope. What we are seeing now is in the long run very good for the airlines and their pilots. We will be able to easily kill upstarts because we have the versatility of our fleets and route networks to move assets and truly drive them out of business.
An interesting day all around.

The DOT has carried JetBlue's water (blue water...) as far as it can on this issue, but LUV taking AAI's slots in DCA and LGA just about guarantees that DOT can't take this any further. When you consider that JetBlue's very, very well connected, and when you consider the fact that this merger reduces the number of LCC's, it's actually possible to see the slot swap being agreed to in a manner that makes JB happy, AND the Merger of Love put in question.

I definitely agree it will strengthen our case in court, and looking at the circumstances it would be even harder for the DOT to defend it's position of protecting customers in LGA.
Maybe your right, perhaps this whole merger will allow this slot swap to go through with less slot divestiture on behalf of DAL and LLC. I have a feeling though the DOT will push back with resistance against us and if anything drag it out for us while weakening our competitive position in NYC.
I hadn't really thought about JB's role in the process, but it's definitely something to think about.
I guess when you start playing favorites, eventually your gonna be stuck be a rock and a hard place.
