Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
I appreciate your enthusiasm, and I think we've got great potential, but it'll only be realized through great customer service, which requires great employee participation and interest, and management knows what to do. I think they're doing a lot of the right things, but C12 will be a big inflexion point in the future of this airline. The CAL-UAL merger will be another.
In regard to customer service, well our service to date blows SWA out of the water. Once the FC seats are gone from AAI we will get a lot of pax back. In NYC, they will just be another piece of tin for ATC to push. Low fares may work for them there, but not like they have in the past. In regard to UAL, yep, we need to compete, and updating how we do business for our customer is priority one.
My comments will based upon career progression going forward. SWA is significantly higher in costs, but marking campaigns have worked for them. I suspect as I did in 2005-06 that they have to morph as they are trying to keep any edge. The industry they compete in and their relative size, do not support their tried and tested business model. Putting employees first will always be good business, I am talking about the rest of it.
No. They're not. RJ Captains pushing 40 are now more the rule than the exception. They have families. They have kids they need to provide for. They will fight.... vigorously... against any attempt to limit their growth at the regional airline level. Additionally, they will fight.... vigorously.... to take as much of your flying as they can get. For the most part, they cannot afford to (or simply do not want to) start over... Do not underestimate this group. They are very large and are dangerously close to having a majority vote in ALPA national. To write them off as misguided kids is foolish. Make no mistake... the RJ lifers very much have the ear of ALPA national.

That is a poor assumption. I know many RJ "Lifers" in their 40's that would be happy as all get out to get out of there. They were be even more for it if they knew that going to any of the majors would mean progression with no more scope sales. The true fear they have is that once again the job they take at the bottom of our list will be sold for pay, or retirement credits.
You hold or push back the limit on scope the dynamic changes and changes quickly. Many of these "lifers" would be throwing apps in without a thought in the world. Furthermore, there were plenty of guys that fell in to this category that came to DAL in the last wave. Why? Because the risk was worth the rewards, even with a CH11 contract, and even with the most recent scope sales. Thus far the gamble seems to have paid off.
I have many friends in the top 300 at a few regionals (top 20%) that will leave the second they get interviewed and hired. As for the few that state they are staying put, some mean it, but most just do not want to get furloughed in the next round. They saw too many friends back in 2001 and again in 2007 (UAL and CAL) barely finish training before they were going to Asia to find jobs.

Well, while we are waiting for that 50.000 maybe we can debate a bit on a little issue I ran into today. Apparantly Delta has decided that if you are gay you can add you partner to your medical insurance, however, if you are straight (like me) and have a GF you have lived with for almost two years, there is no way. I contacted ALPA and they assured me that Delta is in their right and that there is no laws stopping them from these discriminating policies. Anybody have an idea where to start so I can get my GF added to my medical insurance?
As a former Naval Aviator we were told we must be able to think outside of the box - how is this?
Become a gender confused female - you know a dude who thinks he is a chick, even though he has the male plumbing. Your female girlfriend would now be your lesbian girlfriend and thus eligible -problem solved.
Scoop

Disregard - I see Carl already beat me to this. Great (devious) minds think alike.

I think the highlighted portion is the crux of our issues. Have we fNWA or fDAL really had a good leader that continuously demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities which made pilots "want to work for him"? When is the last time that National ALPA has had someone with those qualities?
