Rocky, this is often listed as the rationale. Let's do some quick math. ATL has about 4000 pilots.

Let's assume 50% are commuters - that leaves 2000 who live in ATL
Let's assume 50% of those are flying - that leaves 1000 who are off on the meeting day.
Let's even assume 50% of those have a decent reason for not attending - that leaves 500 with no good reason NOT to attend.

Yet.... about 40 guys show up. Less than 10% of those with no good reason NOT to. And to think Carl challenges my view that most DAL pilots are apathetic!

I think you are correct that there is much apathy. But that is a one trick pony. ALPA still refuses to entertain the idea of webcasts. Why? I can vote a proxy to any corporation in America via the web or even telephone yet I cannot see a union meeting via that same medium. Why? Ya'll aren't gonna divulge anything all that important at any of these meetings anyway, so what's the BFD? 80% commuters in JFK and DTW yet you wonder why there isn't more participation? Look into the internet thingy. It is truly an amazing medium for contacting people. Check out YouTube sometime. ESPN.com... there are many out there that obviously you (and ALPA) have never heard of. And Carl accuses Delta of being run by the Amish.

Your view doesn't need challenging because it is so wrong on its face. Who would waste their time voting in an organization that rejects all change by tabling motions and refusing to hear resolutions. It's not apathy, it's the understanding that ALPA will never change. This has been written many times, but you refuse to acknowledge it. Undoubtedly because it hurts your "argument."

That's kind of great idea and yet so simple. Because the truth is, DALPA isn't an ATL based pilot only organization is it?

I hear those gotomeetings.com, that'd be great to listen in and watch. Just like a good number sign in for the quarterly numbers and post live. Boy, I'd love to see a night where we have a live thread going on about a live ALPA meeting.

And thats why it won't happen. :D

There has been some progression at C44 in the right direction.

The thing that has amazed me since I joined the airline industry is how ALPA still acts like a union of the 1950's or 60's with no teeth and with similar communication. I'd seen it all my life, but nothing changed over the years... wages went down over the years accross the board with less buying power and more excuses.

I hear NuGuy has a crowbar in his closet for old school purposes. :D

So, "you won't bother to vote anyway" is a proper response to my "his shirt is right" and "your attitude, if displayed by ALPA, will kill it in the long run?"

Please, reel it in and tell me:

1.) How Forgot's shirt was out of context. (I mean hell, aren't you agreeing with his premise of that he is not trusted to vote for ALPA president when you argue that "we" as pilots don't vote enough?

2.) How an attitude like yours displayed by ALPA will not eventually lead to ALPA's being voted off the property?

If not, just say "I'm going to change the subject, or "I don't want to talk about it," or in the title box type in "deflection alert."

If you want to talk about participation and griping, I can do that too. But, at least follow the flow of the argument. You might find some agreement before the argument.
