Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
Thanks johnso. I understand that the earliest they can schedule me for SC or a trip is 5 hours after the "rest". Do you concur with that?

So...to repeat a common theme here, when do you think/estimate that Delta will hire again? Curious to see what most line guys think

In any case stagnation in size looks far more likely than any growth, and so most hiring will come from retirements and no one is leaving right now (in any significant number).
The company may go crazy redeploying equipment in and out of existing domiciles and that might drive a little hiring for the training bubble which we already see a good bit of.
All things aside, it appears the 300ish rumor is probably about right assuming we don't lapse into a depression or suffer another significant terror event, etc. The current school of thought seems to be run as lean as possible (and we ran too lean last summer, hence the recent hiring...only the bare minimum necessary for peak season relief) and I don't see any reason that would change especially given all the uncertainty out there on so many fronts. JMHO.
when you come off of rest then you'll automatically roll into LC at which time you'll need 12 hours notice for a trip or a minimum of 10 if they want you on asap for SC. So 10 would be the absolute minimum.

Of course we don't want (nor should we allow) that. Heck, most of the time when they "reduce seats" they do so to install more first class seats specifically in order to increase revenue in the first place. That's hardly a driver for pay cuts. In a bad economy the gas saved by pulling seats is next to nothing, and it increases CASM at least on paper so that would be dumb from the company's point of view. Max certifiable should be what we are concerned with anyway, along with MTOW, cargo capacity, speed, range and other fixed criteria.
Argumentson the exact science of the formulas for calculating pay by type aside though, the point here is that consolidating pay rates saves the company a lot of money by significantly reducing one of (if not the) main drivers of costly training events.
At a minimum we should bring the 88 rates up to the 90 rates in any case though, and I would agree that the 88/90/319/320/737's should pay the same (the current 737 rate) and SWA rates seem to be more than fair for all. With the 9's going away soon anyway, we would likely need a smaller narrowbody rate for when we get the nxt gen smaller narrowbody on property (EMB190/195, C-Series, Mitsubishi, Sukhoi, baby Boeing/Airbus et.) and of course a separate rate, as necessary, to get the larger RJ's currently outsourced back on property (or at least the pilot jobs back on property). But in any case having a ton of pay rates that are separated in many cases by tiny or even non existant seat ranges is silly for us and for the company.

1. Add more first/business class seats.
2. Reduce the required number of Flight attendants.
I have never heard fuel savings as a rationale for pulling seats - although it would not surprise me.
As to pay adjusting with seat changes - we negotiate pay for specific aircraft. Once the rates are negotiated management can add/remove seats as they see fit. Capacity/size is definitely a factor in the pay rate negotiations, but once that rate is set there is no pay formula that adjusts pay up and down as seats are added or removed.
Scoop
This seems to be an ongoing issue. The pilot is not required to check sked or answer phone during the "rest" but an event can be put on your line if it starts at least 5 hrs after the rest ends.
Well, how do I dance around this one. Like Capn, I'm on reserve and evidently scheduling doesn't know it.
But I watch very very little tv as I have a two year old that goes a million miles per hour. Ever since tivo came out the amount of tv I watch ironically went to just the Office, FNC 6:30-7:00, some Gretta, some Modern Family and football but really only Auburn and UGA games (don't ask) and any late night NFL games whenever I can. That's sadly it.
The rest I get online at lots of political websites and the View comes up often on the websites I frequent because I guess that scratchy voiced unattractive inside and out Joy makes news very often.
My real problem is I don't watch enough tv, I spend too much time here. I have a problem, I admit that, but there is no place else to go.
I'm really not to unlike Tyronne Biggums here, stealing from kids to get some of the good stuff.

I could get a hobby but hobbies cost money, as does a lot of house and yard work, and I'm on 70 hours which leads me back to this free website. It's free.

What happened to this thread? Next you pajama wearing sissies are going to be talking Oprah.
If you don't do your grocery shopping (buying beer during daytime TV time while to convince your wife you don't just sit around ALL day) in a bathrobe and boxers, your dudeness on reserve can be called into question.
