Wonder if an in-house union would've passed?

Wonder how the AFA is handling this right now?

Not being a smart ass - just wondering what they fear. Fear itself?

I think it's a fear of the unknown. Some of those ex-NWA flight attendants have been under a union contract for a long time. Now things are going to change in ways they don't know, and they aren't protected against future change.

I think they ex-NWA FAs will have a better career because of it, but a) I'm not a FA and b) haven't worked for Delta for that long. The Delta FAs seem like a happier bunch than the ex-NWA FAs I've met and talked to at work. Now some of that can be blamed on the corporate culture at NWA. From what I've seen at Delta, the company does a decent job taking care of the FAs. Better care than I think the AFA did. We'll see.

I know Jug, you've never been a smart ass, seriously.

I've never gotten into specifics with them because I don't care that much. I'm one of those business majors who believes that in a perfect world there is no need for unions. However, the airline industry has proven to me there is no perfect world:D

In general, they are a beat child. NWA really did treat them like vending machines and the union was seen as a safety net. Find holes in the safety net? Replace the union, ie why they are in their 3rd union in the 15 years I've been here.

So, time will tell how this thing goes. I agree with Sink on how this thing probably should go forward.

For a "southie", I just need to warn you that you are perceived as part of the problem......as allied with "your FAs" thus against them. So for the short term, I suggest trying to "out nice" them:D

That's true, that was a funny statement.

I'm not sure, but I hear a number of F/A's say they are a better alternative. One guy was talking about Teamsters at Tower Air, and AFA elsewhere, before he came to Delta, and he says Teamsters was very, very easy, and AFA was drama, drama, drama. I'm not pushing for Teamsters.

No union, Teamsters, IAM, in-house... I don't really mind, as long as we have F/A's that kind of have a sense of who they are as a group, and are professional and competent. The path to our security goes through their ability to serve passengers well enough, and I want them happy enough. This vote was about AFA's survival, but it wasn't about what they really want as a group. I'm simply hoping the environment going forward is positive enough that they can get to know each other calmly, get to some consensus, whatever that is, that makes them happy enough... and the result is that our passengers actually get to eat, pee, sleep, then leave the aircraft without a feeling of raw hate or neglect towards the airline.

Good to know I'm part of the problem. Deep down, I'm really a kool-aid drinking, company man (like so many of the Southies are).

I'll keep on doing what most of us already do, and have a distant, aloof, professional relationship with them. Since my legs mostly include BNA, RDU, and LGA (vs your Siapan (see, I don't even know the identifier)), I'll get my own Coke Zero, SunChips and trash bag.

Understood, thanks. I'll try to kill them with kindness, and pack PowerBars nonetheless.

Probably misstated on my part..........how 'bout mistrusted as in an unknown quantity:D

Coke zero...........really...........that tastes like "new coke" to me, not that you're old enough to know what that is;)

Ferd,
Even the I know what New Coke, or Coke II is....

That was some nasty stuff. Kind of like Dt Coke with Splenda. Never could get a taste for that.

Some of the ridiculous rumors/fears from my last trip.
Richard Anderson is leaving at the end of November and Doug Steenland is coming back. They are going to layoff 2000 U.S. flight attendants and replace them with Asian flight attendants. The company is intentionally screwing FNWA flight attendants to make them quit so they can hire more Asian ones...it goes on and on on blah blah blah...

That is one way to start another union drive for them.
