I'll speak for one. I don't want to be paying to get to work, period. That includes my union.

ACL,
I'd just like to see our union get a back bone, take a stand, and have us all cease-and-desist this asinine, humiliating excuse of a "show" for the sake of "security". By nature, what rises to the level of an SOS is a moving target. This is only the second event I've witnessed that meets that threshold. Respectfully, chuck Chuck; Bottom up baby! Watch what is happening. There is a shift going on and if everyone can take a second and quit talking at each other, they would see it. I would like to see more guys like you, me, and anyone else with an opinion get involved even on the most basic level in this Association. Simply showing up to a LEC meeting and being informed on the issues would greatly change the dynamic that we have had over the better part of the last decade. |

except I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "That includes my union..." chuck What he means is he does not want to pay for himself whether it be out of his pocket directly or out of his pocket indirectly though his union and the union dues he pays. |

True, but one would be an additional assessment, whereas they are not going to increase our personal taxes each year for a service that will compliment current procedures.

As I recall, the ROI was going to be achieved through fuel savings from the reduced weight and maintenance costs. The maintenance savings was big. They went from something like 27 line-replaceable-units to six. That also cut hundreds of pounds from the a/c. The mod back then I remember seemed very cheap at around $250k per aircraft. Do that to over 200+ aircraft and the expense up front is large. But the savings from the weight and mx, would pay for itself in 3 years. However, back then the NWA merger hadn't gone through and they wanted ROI's that were shorter. Perhaps now, they will look at the longer term savings now that these aircraft are here to stay till at least 2020.

The reason for this is NEXGEN. FAA ATC wants to institute curvilinear 3-5 mile visual approaches into the major US airports. Steve D is the chair of the ATA NexGen committee. If we want to play ball, we have to have the avionic reliability and features the flat glass brings.
Very true, and the upgrades to the 88/90 and 757/767 fleets just became more affordable. We also get another reason for the a ROI. |
Dawgs looking good- Woof woof!!!
