Your history just goes back a little further......(further/farther????)* Oh, geeze. I'd better look this up.......

*Usage Note: Since the Middle English period many writers have used farther and further interchangeably. According to a relatively recent rule, however, farther should be reserved for physical distance and further for nonphysical, metaphorical advancement. Thus 74 percent of the Usage Panel prefers farther in the sentence If you are planning to drive any farther than Ukiah, you'd better carry chains, and 64 percent prefers further in the sentence We won't be able to answer these questions until we are further along in our research. In many cases, however, the distinction is not easy to draw. If we speak of a statement that is far from the truth, for example, we should also allow the use of farther in a sentence such as Nothing could be farther from the truth. But Nothing could be further from the truth is so well established as to seem a fixed expression.

You'll be surprised at how much it resembles a brick and that it has a glide ratio greater than zero. I saw the one in the Air and Space annex @ IAD.

I'll give you an honest answer to your question. Yes, fee for departure regional carriers are the devil. WE screwed up relaxing our scope to allow them to have grown like they have. As a result, we have relinquished that flying for mainline seniority list pilots...for what? We cannot even prebook a jumpseat to/from work on the airplanes carrying our code.

I do not in any way demonize the pilots doing that flying though. I do have a problem with the RJDC and the sense that that is "their" flying. I wish Compass was still represented by our MEC and that Compass and Mesaba were still owned by our corporation. I do fault our MEC for being complicit in letting those two entities be sold...making the scope recapture goal/hope/pipedream more difficult/impossible.

I have not. But since we ran out of things to rent on blockbuster.com that'll probably be approved.

The other crazy historical stuff of the time was that tornado that hit DC in the middle of it being burned by the British in the war of 1812. Or 1814. And they abandoned the place after the storm. That's nearly biblical.

Speaking of that time period, the main road from my parents neighborhood is Surrender Road in Yorktown. They actually made it so you can't drive straight on their road onto Surrender but it was the same road. Neat place to visit at least once but really not overly exciting. Although the Redoubts and their historical markers can be very interesting to see the names of the people involved, the number of Germans and French involved and the famous names. Actually, Germans made up a third of the participants in the battle and to make things confusing, there were Germans fighting with the British, Americans and French. There is one redoubt (9 or 10) that was captured by Hamilton and once that happened the British started pulling back and Washington just bombarded the town and the battle of Yorktown was won. You can see the redoubts, not sure of their accuracy but it's probably better than Ford's Theatre in D.C.

If you go to ORF, hang a right outside the hotel and pass the free McArthur memorial/museum and go a block or so you'll find an old church with a cannon ball stuck in the wall. There is a plaque saying it was put there in 1776. I think they cemented it back in place. The walls are original but the church was burned during the siege.

Whether it's a DC9, 727, DC10 or Beech 18, so going back to (whether it one day happens at NASA or a private company) to rockets and capsules landing in the water is kind of cool.

But the shuttle was some kind of Gnarly Gnarlington Space Assassin awesomeness.

yeah look at the windows...they ought to look familiar, no?

Cheers

Default DAL fuel tax breaks

The state of Georgia gave DAL a tax break in 2005 on fuel. That was when DAL was in bankruptcy, but since has emerged a strong company. Sounds eerily familiar:

Isn't it typical for a legislator to say something like this:

On the other hand, State Rep.Virgil Fludd, D-Tyrone, says the tax break for Delta cost Georgia $24 million in 2010.

I mean, the gubbamint reaches into your wallet and takes out money... and when they DON'T do that.. it "costs" the taxpayers. I wonder (hypothetically of course) how much it would "cost" the taxpayers if DAL were to just up and leave for Minnesota...

Is this even English? Proofreading is a beautiful thing. Maybe you should learn how to do it?

So where in the article did you see anything about leaving MN, other than it was in a MN business paper.
