Hey 80 -

Remember that Rebecca Black video you posted?
Apparently you are the visionary. Her song is already a classic.
Cover versions are popping up all over the web.

Now THAT is classy !!

Can anyone explain the flight hours bank to me? I put some hours in the bank last year and got a green slip recently and it almost seemed like they used those bank hours to pay the green slip. Is that right or did I just read it wrong?
Also how does the "borrow" system work? I've got a friend who is on first year pay, and I suggested putting hours in the bank to get paid back at second year pay. That right?

If he can fill up his bank at new hire pay, about the only way he will be able to get a better rate of return is to go back in time an buy AAPL at $100/share. Also, if you envision an upgrade any time soon, the same applies. Basically, whatever rate you are making when you take it OUT of the bank is the rate it is paid. It does not matter how much you are making when you put it in...

Not sure what you are seeing with the first question. They don't use bank hours to pay green slips. Its possible you may have to use bank hours to get up to the GS trigger if you are short for the month but that is a transaction initiated by you.

In your second scenario -- you are correct.
Its a good deal to bank some hours at a low pay rate and withdraw them at a higher rate. Advanced entitlements is another good opportunity to do this. Fill your bank just before you upgrade.

Are people still doing that???

On another note, here is an interesting quote from Michael Boyd's Hot Flash this morning:

"It's not that Delta doesn't like Memphis. Or that the connecting hub there has no value.

But they're cutting 25% of the operations there by the end of the year...

At almost the same time, Delta ordered 12 more E-170s for Compass.

... Delta is moving with good sense to reduce the number of RJs in its fleet, and the E-170 order is completely consistent with that strategy. That's because, common nomenclature notwithstanding, the E-170 is not a "regional jet." To the contrary, the market niche they were originally aimed at was the lower-end of the single-aisle category - DC-9-10s, BAC-111s, F-100s - that had been abandoned by Boeing and Airbus. (We know - we were there.) Regardless of who's going to crew them, those -170s are all about moving toward less RJ and more mainline-cabin flying."

I've been following Boyd weekly for 7 years. He's right about, oh, 100% of the time. It's clear that management likes the DCI flying, we will never see that flying again at mainline us we TAKE IT BACK, and any future relaxation of scope will be fully exploited by the company.

Good point.
You can also use the bank if you are downgrading due to the plague of RJs.
Borrow time from your bank (go negative) at the higher payrate and then pay it back at the lower rate.

Or just before a 30% pay raise.
The Contract 12 pay restoration better be a lot higher than that!

Check Essential ... in retribution for Mullet Man, you receive another picture of Bill Gates being sexy in Teen Beat. Is that a five and a quarter inch floppy he's got laid out there?
