Hey Carl - question: How does the discussion about our next contract go with the big airplane people you fly with and have breakfast with in Narita? I think the (relative) new-hires and smaller airplanes are pretty well represented here on APC, but I don't know of any other 330 and 744 Captain on here.

Are they thinking about Scope (big airplane or RJ scope), pay rates, work rules, hotter flight attendants, or retirement? What's important to you guys?

Everyone. This is coming from our brothers and sisters at UCAL who presently are further along the road in negotiations with their management. We will be facing much of the same tactics their management is employing against them now; its just business and its text book. Just remove the name Jeff from the post below and insert Ed and/or Richard. Our resolve and unity will have to be rock solid for us to achieve restoration.
If it is, I sincerely believe we can. Don't sell yourselves short or underestimate the power of a collective acting force of 12,000.

Have a Happy 4th.

Don't fool yourselves into thinking Jeff doesn't get it because he's not doing what you want.
Smisek graduated top of his class at both Princeton and Harvard Law and was a top
securities lawyer at Vinson & Elkins before Bethune recruited him.
Bethune has stated multiple times that he's one of the sharpest people he knows.

He knows exactly what he's doing and that is to fully
take advantage of pilot weaknesses to cut costs via any and all means.
He believes this is viable because the costs we've created through minimal resistance
are minor compared to the savings they've reaped. This has to change.
Basically, he gets it, that we're weak and easily influenced by fear and greed.
It's time we make him get it, absolutely and completely, that we're unbreakable this time.
Then, and only then, will he move on to other cost savings and revenue improvements.

Most of the guys I fly with have C2K pay restoration as their top priority. But the very next priority (and it is extremely close to the first priority) is stopping the scope erosion and ending the joint ventures. A lot of my compadres really do understand the extreme threat of scope erosion. Unfortunately for DALPA, they also understand DALPA's refusal to defend our current scope. It's one of THE main reasons the DPA just surpassed 3,025 cards.

I was taking a walk today and thinking about this very thing. My time at NWA/DAL has been short thus far, but collectively as a occupation we have been pushed around long enough. So in support of the CAL/UAL pilots and in prep for our negotiations I'll say this.......

Carl I agree with the jest part. Restoration and scope are two issues that are the most important issues we face. They are intertwined.
As for DALPA, if they even think of selling one more seat they will be OBE.

The 717s were about 15.3M each all-in...

That would make Hawaiian a more juicy takeover target as a purchaser would actually gain ownership in airframes instead of just taking over lease payments...

Hmmmm

Cheers

Coincidence? I think not. Been saying this for years.
