Pretty sad that a policy that could have been used as a carrot is instead used like a stick. Get a dog, kick it everyday, see how long it takes for that dog to stop coming to you when you call it.

The topics are relevant because DAL - for whatever reason - latches on to bad data and treats it like a manageable metric: Like attila, APU sheriff, and commuting policy.

This is so true. In fact, I think this alone is our airline management's most serious failing.

At DAL I have changed bases 5 times, some for juniority reasons, others for seniority or equipment reasons. I have been mandatorily displaced, but never used a paid move - speaking of money out of your pocket. I have also scrolled the paper on the aircraft printer to use for taking notes, that probably ate up some of your profit sharing too.

We really dont need to have this discussion. I commute, you dont. I live with it, you choose not to. JG commutes positive space from JAX. He doesn't have to worry about getting a letter. Heck, I dont worry about getting a letter.

I am amazed that the "average guy" has no qualms calling in sick when he's not. Justify it anyway you want, but the bottom line is it's lying to your employer. And we ALL pay the price for that.

I'm done with this topic...again. I'd like to think most commuters are honest, but frankly, you are the only one to admit to NOT abusing sick leave. For that, I applaud your high character.

But I'm embarrassed to be associated with a group in which most commuters on this board apparently have such low integrity.

Then quit and get a job somewhere else.

OK Bud Just to give you an Example of 2008 Hire....DTW DC9,MEM DC9, DTW 320, ANC 747, MSP 747, MEM DC9, MSP DC9, DTW DC9, MSP 7ER, DTW 7ER. ALL in 3.5 years and 90% were not by choice. Are you telling me me that I should move my family every time? You are smoking crack! Because of the guys like you my DPA card has been filled out.

That's exactly what he's telling you. Don't pay any attention to him. He is flat our wrong on this issue, he has no frame of reference.

I'm an ex-military guy, but I've got a friend coming over for July 4th with two high schoolers interested in our profession. For the young civilian guys out there: what's the best route now a days, assuming money is no object?

PG, let me give you two routes as an example to think about. I started flying at a local airport back in the early 90s and ended H.S. with my commercial and got my CFI in college and instructed.

My roommate at Auburn worked got his private and instrument in college while working on an aerospace engineer degree. As a part of his degree he got a job as a co-op at Delta every other quarter.

I graduated went straight to the airlines. Co-oping and engineering added another year for him in school but he had a blast and then went on to All ATP and got his ratings done and then instructed there. When he left for the airlines he had 1000 TT and 800 ME, compared to me a few years earlier at 1600 TT and 100 ME.

He made Captain, Delta announced they'd hire and he filled out an application with the ability to check the I used to work there box, came to Delta in the (for privacy let's just say at a good time in 2007 to come) and then he got me hired.

So that's just two examples. I enjoyed my path a lot, I'd enjoyed his path a lot too but it was more expensive but cheaper than doing it in college, he also got lots of ME time is great and the intern thing was golden... for the both of us.

Trim tab states that 192 pilots took the early out. So whoever is the closest to 192 (without going over) is the winner of the bets posted earlier in the thread!

And that's just for one move ever in a career. Some would have to move a dozen times or more over the years. Commuting is way cheaper for the company.
