Bar, I was very much a supporter of "unity and scope restoration"....However I realized that you and I are in the minority...You decided to bail to Delta, and I decided to circle my wagons here at ASA...We are BOTH victims of several decades of failed ALPA policy. I respect you and your opinion, and I understand why you don't respect my position...There was only so long that I was going to attack those windmills....I am now focused on growing my company as you should be focused on growing your company....That puts on opposite sides of the fence...This is the huge failure of this "ALPA apartheid"...Much like the civil war, both sides have a good point...
Duh! ^^^^^^^^^^ This rings out the alarm bell for DPA!!!!!!!!!!! Wake up every one, this guy wants to grow his company which will probably replace mainline flying with the same union representing him that is supposed to be protecting us. How much more clearer can this get for you die hard ALPA supporters. I want my money to go to a union that represents me and my future, not a big over sized giant that can't move for fear of being sued by it's membership and loose what they are really interested in: OUR DUES MONEY!!!! What say do we really have at National ALPA????????????

If you are a conspiracy theorist, there are plenty of data points to draw a conspiracy around at AMR / Eagle this week. As you know, Eagle is represented by ALPA.
Apparently* Eagle entered into a scope grievance settlement which resulted in a broad waiver of their scope in exchange for a flow through agreement. The memorandum of agreement was not ratified by their MEC, but rather signed by their contract compliance guy. (sound familiar?) Waiving Eagle scope might be a move to reduce capital expenditure to re-fleet Eagles aging RJ's. Interestingly enough, any outsourcing has to be flown by ALPA members (which is something I've been pushing).
This comes out part and parcel with a mainline aircraft order, which, interestingly enough really is not an aircraft order. It is an intent to rent airplanes via operating leases (as opposed to capital leases which are debt on the bottom line). Long term, this increases American's cost structure substantially. If Delta follows the same pattern, we'll also be trading short term cap ex relief for increased operational costs over the long term.
disclaimer * I've not seen the documents yet & I've no opinion other than Eagle's entering into the highly competitive world of capacity purchase agreements with a less than optimal competitive position. The scope waiver could be fatal to many of their pilots' careers, but is balanced by promises management will hire them at mainline. (management's got a lousy track record of keeping these sorts of promises)
In other, not ALPA, news ... American is adding capacity while the other US carriers are exercising capacity restraint. Wall Street goes narcoleptic during the "biggest airplane purchase in history" and has lots of questions about debt that no one wants to answer during the conference call with investors.
My crystal ball says American's possibly headed for bankruptcy to reorganize debt and will try to aggressively grow after exit.
My crystal ball also says that it puts pressure on the Delta Board to "do something." Maybe this is why the market has our stock lower than where I and many others think it should be.
These events explain the sudden increase in traffic on the "legacy" DCI issues. ALPA's President equates flow through agreements with job protection ... at least enough job protection to reduce the harm of scope waivers. It explains why the Comair bogeyman was resurrected and why they got pitchforks to chase me through the L&G thread.

Your concerns about the DPA are over the top wrt divisiveness. This is the PERFECT time for a DPA movement. It's gets DALPA off their asses and let's them know loud and clear that the group is unhappy. When we get around to time for the openers, DPA will die and go away, and the group will unite. I've seen this movie before. You and "the group" are blowing this way out of proportion because you perceive this as some sort of legitimate threat to throw them off the property which will never happen. Many supporters are tired of watching alpa national throw so much of it's muscle behind RJ carriers. (Look at the magazine cover in the last 5 years?) All the arguments for this apply.. how much dues do we pay vice what they pay? etc... Put down your pom poms for a little bit and look at the meat of the angst, and I think you will see where this is gonna go. That being said, next time you are in ATL ask one of the bubbas when Lee is gonna have me drive his car to Herndon for him.... The offer will stay open until he gets his beltway lobbying job.

Sorry to interrupt the food fight, I got a line for the first time ever. I am now allowed to pick up some open time correct? If so do I have to put a white slip in for the trip that I want? Thanks guys.
