Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
#7461
Of course management would like all pilots to believe that scope is dead. This was an ALPA guy.
I think it is suffice to say that we need to make sure our reps know SCOPE is the #1 priority.
Give away that, and I KNOW our pay, etc will soon follow.
It is great to have a business mind, but use it to fight for what makes this profession better.

Have you always called the reps "the administration?" Been with 3 ALPA carriers and one with a in house, and they were always just the union...the admiistration term seems a little presumptuous. Not trying to start a argument.
Pay has already followed in the form of lost upgrades.

I use administration as a person(s) that is voted in to office. Our reps and MEC are an administration in that effect.
I have always referred to management as such.

[quote=MD80;615225]See... that is the problem!
The senior guys are thinking like this, "I will not be affected by the E190 at the regionals" ... let's change the scope in return for XXXX
Maybe now that UAL is attempting to outsource widebody international flying the senior guys will see the scope issue from a different perspective.

I wrote my rep earlier regarding this issue. He is aware...and assures me that there is nothing to worry about, for what it's worth. I see this as the beginning of the new era, or maybe just the extension of the previous 8 years. It's coming, so hang on. Can we stop it...I think at this point it will take DCI pilots and DAL pilots working in concert. As much as we're blamed for caving in on scope, which we are, they NOW need to step up to the plate and refuse to fly anything outside of their current flying. It's going to take both groups working together to stop the slide.
Have you written your REPS today???

We "senior" guys didn't need the UAL situation to see the danger in a weak Scope clause.
As I've said before, don't bother writing your reps on this issue - write to the MEC Chairman. Our union is a one man show, and right now, the chairman thinks RJ's are GOOD for Delta Air Lines.

Call, write if you want...you should know your rep on a first name basis, also send everything to the chairman....get involved, bring your friends.

I wrote LAX Council 16 this morning. This should send a chill down the spine of every narrow body pilot.
On every trip, I tell the guys I'm flying with about this forum. It's a place where we can freely exchange ideas without the intervention of DALPA. I know some of you have had coordinated efforts at the LEC level. I would like to continue this system wide at our union. I believe it's time to make sure that ANY erosion of scope is politically untenable for our REPS. I promise that I will be a voice at council 16 in LAX.
This in one area that I believe that our FNWA pilots will be a great asset moving forward. Seems to me that you've done a much better job of making your union work for you rather than in the rank and file working for the union.

I agree with you that communication with the MEC is not only a great idea, but will be required. I just need to get over the fact that Lee Moak, personally assured me on several occasions that we would not let scope slide beyond 70 seats, now here we are, looking at the possibility of the remainder of our narrow body flying going away. I don't see this as an overstatement.
So Carl, with all respect, what kind of mind-set should I take when communicating with the MEC, when the trust has been violated in such a way. How can I change my mind set to hold these guys responsible for representing me and my fellow line pilots?
I am sincerely asking you for the beginning of a strategy for holding our union accountable. Thanks in advance.
