(Al Hartmann | The Salt Lake Tribune) Tipped-over semitruck lies along the shoulder of I-15 northbound near Farmington on Thursday morning. I-15 was closed Thursday morning to high-profile vehicles due to the high winds in Davis County. A wind gust was recorded at 100 mph in Centerville.

Is the station club still there? I invented a drink there called the white dog back in the late 80's, I heard it is now drank nationwide. Mix the little yogurt shooter with soju...look ma, I'm invisible!

When Asiana first bought their 747-400's they contracted NATCO to do their initial training.
One of the NWA APD's (who was not well liked at NWA) did most of the initial training along with their type rides. After Asiana started hiring DEC Captains, he retired from NWA and was hired by Asiana. He flunked his check ride there. What goes around comes around!

I always figured that line was written by a guy who hadn't spent much time in Hong Kong.

What does that say?

Script writing fascinates me. I heard once Top Gun was to be much more realistic then it was. That guy at the beginning wasn't supposed to freak out over "Migs" as much as he was supposed to be split in half by the back of the ship on landing. Don't know if that was the Navy PR people kicking in but if it was they should've left it in there. "This is hard people."

But when I heard that the producers for 24 originally pitched a comedy about the 24 hours leading to a wedding and then switched to Keifer Newk Sutherland and anti-terrorism that's when I realized writers do whatever, they're not married to a concept. Well, 24 did later become a comedy about terrorism. Sucks when original writers leave- see the Simpsons.

Some writing to me is trying too hard and the plot is forced but other times you sit there and think wow, some brilliant people are doing drugs because how do you in your right mind come up with the concept for Inception?

I once flew a MD88/90 trip with a CA who was obsessed with the movie Top Gun and his years as an F-14 pilot. So much so, when we had a layover in San Diego, he just had to take me to Kansas City BBQ -- the restaurant where they filmed Goose playing "Great balls of fire" on the piano for the girls.

DO NOT go to this restaurant!!! The food absolutely sucks and the restaurant stays in existence because every square inch of the place is dedicated to something to do with Top Gun which lures in unsuspecting closet Top Gun fans who get fooled by the false advertising that it is a legit BBQ restaurant. Kansas City should sue this place because of how bad the BBQ is.

A part of my childhood just died reading this.

I flew with a guy a while back that was at fighter weapons school at the time... he had some great stories. His name is visible on the plaque when Goose bangs his head on the wall asking about the truck driving school (the scene I posted earlier was from the "carrier" with this strangely high ceilings). He said all the actors were way cool except for the guy that played Slider.

someone asked about winds at SLC today.
Winds at SLC were forecast to be 90kts at 0900L in the paperwork this morning...had to check it twice to believe it. At 0700ish, it was 10 kts on the ground and TO roll. However, it was 80 degrees off at 2000 AGL (6000 MSL). Several A/C went around on final around 0715, and severe turb and windshear was reported.
TO fine. Mod - Severe turb from 6000M to FL 190 after TO. +/- 30 kt shears in the climb.
Spilt my coffee.
