Timbo,
Your option 3 is by far the best. TIm Caplinger is a good speaker and would make a strong candidate if he chose to run. Being a Status Rep in the Delta MEC would give him a valuable education.
But that's not his point. He'll tell you he was angered by the NWA ALPA's handling of "his" grievance. IMHO, this is as much a vendetta as anything else. He's taken a falsehood, which was spread to increase ... ahem "unity" by unifying Delta pilots against ASA and Comair and expanded that to justify an entirely different representational entity.
Some of Tim's ideas are good and could be used.
The problem for DPA is, and will be (they can't out run it):
(1) The "conflict of interest" has ALWAYS been decided in favor of mainline and has never hampered our bargaining
(2) What has harmed our union is a lack of unity ... pilots have been unwilling to stand and help pilots ... the DPA has not embraced "unity" and really does not seem to understand the concept, at least not as well as ALPA's very minimal understanding of the concept.
Removal of a non existent conflict will reveal no improvement in our bargaining position. ... then pilots will be dissatisfied because CHANGE made things worse. Some will want to return to ALPA, but we will have probably so harmed ALPA in the process of the representational flight that they are less appealing an option than we have now. So then what?
The way forward (we all know this) is to get behind our elected Representatives. Show up, volunteer and talk positively about OUR union. For most of us, we are at our #1 airline choice. We are getting paid at the top of our peer group (not as good as some, but better than most). Could things be better, heck yeah, but lets be smart about how we get there.

Option 3: Do what they are doing and allow our bargaining agent to commit hara kiri with an poor opener. When the DAL pilots realize they have absolutely nothing to lose by replacing their bargaining agent, the NMB and company will know who they are negotiating with. There will be a delay in the contract...yes, but for a good cause.
Scambo, have you picked up the phone, called your Rep (or better yet, call all 3 of them) and let them know that a weak opener will push you (and many more of us) to submit a DPA card?
The Problem at DAL (south) has always been a weak and lazy PILOT GROUP, not weak leadership.

Why is there no Football (a cooler filled with beer) in Narita? That sports bar sucks, the beer is way too expensive and the service sucks. I am always amazed that with about 350 crew laying over in NRT every night, there is Nothing going on, every night! What the -Heck-?
When we had the Frankfurt Hub there was a crew Happy Hour every night in the Biestro, (the hotel bar) two for one drinks, you had to get in there early just to get a table, and that was with only about 100 crew on site, by 6pm 70 of them would be in there.
Narita, 3x more people, and nobody shows up.
Next time, I'll be at the Barge Inn throwing darts...alone.

Now imagine a Bears team, with a Cam?
Now imagine a Bears team, with a Cam, and a Calvin Johnson. What a freak show that'd be.
as for Carolina, my new adopted team, they're 1-3. Which is about where most of the playoff teams from last year seem to be.
You could finally see political parties arise in LEC votes, and to me that's a good thing.
I mean during presidential and congressional election times most candidates are somewhere near the middle, most. And when they're there, especially those who are on the other side of the fence, what do you say? That's [insert cuss word] - "They're lying! They're just trying to win an election!" And that's kind of what you wonder about REP elections. Because what's nice about those (D)'s and (R)'s are that you know where they'll most likely be when the rubber hits the road. I like political parties. The founders weren't crazy about them, but they were there all along.
If a LEC candidate is a (DPA) beside his name then you know what you're voting for. It's not a bad idea, the question is do you pull that trigger if you're the DPA and run a simultaneous "assault" on ALPA?

BB, I agree, but here's a thought, what about Option 3?
Option 3 is where all the DPA guys (who are dues paying DALPA members) show up at their LEC meetings and DEMAND the changes they seek, through the process already in place.
Why they want to reinvent the wheel is beyond me, if they put half the effort into working within the system already in place that they are putting into replacing the system, well, it would work out much better for them, and quicker.

I just told my kids that our dog died, when in reality he went off to live happily on a farm somewhere.

When the current guy got rid of the only good bartender and some KLM dude married everyones favorite waitress, things took a serious turn for the worse!
Agree completely!! We have been quietly discussing the need to get rid of the current manager in there. I'm sure he would me much happier working in the restaurant or somewhere. Things haven't been good there since the bankruptcy, but they have really gone down hill since the Aussie manager (cant remember his name) departed a year/18 months ago.

Narita is one of the most boring int'l layovers. Its good for working out and day trading, but its just a place to mark time til you die. Cheap beer would be nice.
