I really hope you're right about that. But I gotta be honest, I will be truly SHOCKED if our opener is even a 30% increase in pay. With guys like RW in Strategic Planning, his sidekick RH, and a Moak disciple as MEC Chairman, I just don't see anything remotely close to that happening.

But I'll tell ya what... if our opener would result in a big enough increase that our average domestic narrowbody pilot would have a W2 of over $230K (with no scope givebacks), I'll buy you a steak dinner with all the trimmings and write "ACL is a genius" 100 times on the APC chalkboard! How's that?

I will be truly shocked if DALPA publicizes the opener in any fashion.

And I'll buy both of you guys all the beer you can drink for a month...as long as Ferd's not around.

Today we have airlines living under bankruptcy contracts struggling to restore wages and benefits while a tone deaf ALPA continues to live lavishly.

I could go on and on; I'll leave it for others.

However, ALPA is now like an over extended game of Jenga. One mistep and the whole structure comes down. If DAL left ALPA, could they survive without the revenue? Would the other members agree that an increase in dues would be exceptable to maintain ALPA? Would we agree to that if UAL left and DAL remained? How about an assesment to cover their legal failings?

Point is ACL, PPA and DPA are not even comparable. In all likelihood if DPA or UPA or any other independent is formed, it will be due to self inflicted wounds on ALPA's part. And that over extended game of Jenga, they are the only one playing it now and pulling pieces out of it. DPA can wait til it crashes down, then rebuild. They might not even have to push for the extra 2000 cards. They will come in in numbers greater than that when the wound comes.

The potentially biggest self inflicted wound will be the opener.

Good night. Got football to catch up on now that I can find real football on tv. Not that round ball stuff.
+1. Very good post. Now, what can we do to make the ALPA lovers realize these facts and jump before we lose too much?

I am still handing out cards and got reading material in my bag.

First. Newk.

I don't even know why I am talking to you. Your #@%# bears beat my Cam. And it wasn't even the @%#%^ bears. It was that @#%@3 Hester guy again.

But, to answer your question and couple it all together with what ACL was talking about here,

I would love for DPA to be the answer, but it isn't. Given where this industry is going, and what we will be dealing with in the next decade, a National Union with localized MEC's is the only way to fight against the effects of Transnational airlines. Ergo, we have to fix it. If we as a group choose not to, we will suffer the effects of turning inward.
this is what I am thinking - there is no better man to have at the helm of our union as we battle transgender airlines than Carl Spackler.

We'll see the opener in the first TA. If the TA is weak, so was the opener. If that happens, the DPA may gain a lot of momentum. We can always model it on SWAPA, they seem to do well for their membership. You just
can't say there isn't a conflict of interest between the legacies and the regionals with ALPA. That problem will never go away. Throw in the fact that we only got about $10 million in services from ALPA out of the $35 million in dues, and I want more for ME with my money. I am not paying for the regional guys with my pay.

Well, if it doesn't at least match SWA W-2, I'll be hitting the streets to sell DPA like Billy Mays with a case of sham-wows in a rainstorm. I'll get people to join and donate to DPA that don't even work at Delta.
