Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
I'm not even sure why you would think that a bunch of guys who have stepped up to the plate to represent and make efforts to improve the pay and working conditions of the pilots of Delta Air Lines would be doing anything OTHER than working to maximize the amount of compensation and benefits for the pilots of Delta! They ARE working towards improving our situation...every day!.... It's just that 15 months before a contract is amendable and the pilots have not been surveyed is not the appropriate time or place to go off and start beating your war drums. I have no doubt we will see the big guns come out, but they have to be unleashed at the right time for maximum effect. It's that "don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes" thing. ......

Since everyone is talking about contract items that cause staffing reductions, here is my prediction for an item in the management opener and why many pilots won't realize/care about the immediate and future job losses it can cause.
Virtual Basing a.k.a. Satellite Basing (fNW).

Benefits to company: Money saved on infrastructure/rent. (See Commercial Real Estate listings in CVG and MSP)
Fewer CPOs (see above) and fewer CPs (reduce number of seniority list management pilots required) Reduce admin jobs (fewer CPOs)
Reduction in pilot staffing
The amount depends on how the language is written.

One of the last proposals by fNW would have allowed satellite basing with the following "perks" for pilots. Pilot would get positive space to and from sat base. Pilot would get company paid hotel room.
Perks for management? Pilot on call as reserve the day prior to a trip originating from sat base (not paid for reserve day). No deadhead pay to/from sat base at beginning or end of rotation(less pilot staffing required).
If you think its not a significant staffing hit, consider that once you let the camels nose in the tent (think the first time we granted 50 seat RJ relief or first agreement to codeshare with ALK), further erosion will be on the table at every contract negotiation that follows. How about sat bases at NRT and AMS? How about DFW, CVG, MEM and SEA? Maybe we can just have one master base in ATL, one CPO in ATL and we can move pilots around the system by paying their hotel rooms instead of deadhead pay.
Some will think this is a great deal because it MAY end their commuting problems and will want to try it on for size.
I predict this is already in the management opener waiting to be presented
I prefer to slap the camel's nose to keep it out of the tent and then secure and patch up the existing leaks.

wait a minute... chess in Moscow? The A330 goes to Moscow? you dogs. Nothing wrong with Dayton you know.

Management loves it and ALPA seems to as well. They even gave us that recent swap "improvement" of letting guys pick up trips that take them within 30 minutes of a FAR violation instead of the 1 hour rule we've had for years.

Just attended the Section 6 roadshow at SNA for the LAX base. Nothing earth shattering but some of the points made were:
The MEC wants everyone, and they do mean everyone to fill out the forthcoming contract survey - this will drive our negotiations.
A few of the CAPTs discussed how some of the LAX FO’s were complaining about financial distress. Not everyone was familiar with this, but it was good to see it brought up. LAX is a high cost area and some guys are struggling.
Scope came up a few times. Not just RJs, but codeshare (ALK) JV, and also DCI. The ALPA guys were stressing the 50 seaters were going away and said we owned everything over 76 seats.
They don’t seem to think small jet scope is an issue - they feel that we as a pilot group have learned, we had a gun to our head in BK etc.
The SCOPE sale for pay raise issue was said to basically be an urban legend. Overall positive feeling on Scope, but I just don’t see the same “angst” over DCI from the ALPA guys compared to how a lot of our FOs feel.
A looming threat is the large number of wide-body orders that the Middle East airlines have and the political pressure that they may invoke to pry open the cabotage can of worms. Most guys think this is the big future threat.
The Alaska code share came up and was a little bit contentious but it is in the contract and the ALPA guys insist that big-picture it benefits us the DAL Pilots. As a LAX based pilot lets just say I am a little skeptical about this but will give them the benefit of the doubt - then again do I really have a choice?
CPO sick calls were discussed - know your obligations, read the ALPA provided bulletin and comply with it. The company has the right to call employees.
Like I said nothing earth shattering, and as an early 2000 hire I felt pretty good about most things.

Leaves a six inch scrape in the Whale's winglet, flight delayed.

Shiz, you are in denial. And I think you are going to be hugely disappointed in the result. I hope I'm wrong and you are right. I really do. But I don't think that's going to turn out to be the case.
Tell you what... If our opener is for full restoration (C2K+COLA) with significant get-backs on scope. And if we end up with C2012 with our domestic narrowbody guys averaging over $230K for Captains and over $140K for F/O's (like SWA) while at least holding the line on our current scope. If either of those things happen, the steak dinner with all the trimmings is on me. You just name the time and place!
