Also, how many hours do you get paid while in training? Hopefully not 70. Thx.

Back in the dark ages, they would typically send us to school, then put us back on our 'old' equipment for 2-3 months...then convert us. They did this to me when I went from 757 F/O to M88 Capt. in 1992. When I asked for another IOE before my first trip after conversion, because I hadn't been in a Mad Dog for about 80 days, they said no, they were too short of LCA's but..."Don't worry, you'll be fine..." Thank God for my excellent F/O, who was senior to me!

After years of complaining about it, we finally got it changed, so now after training and IOE, you don't go back to your old equipment.
But back then, while I was in 88 Capt. school, scheduling called my home and asked my wife "Where is he, we just saw that we need to schedule him for 757 recurrent!" She said, "HE'S IN MD88 SCHOOL, IN ATL (you idiots!)" They caught up with me at the training hotel (pre-cell phone days) and made me go to 757 recurrent a couple days after my MD88 IOE! When I told the Sim instructor what was going on, he was very sympathetic, he rolled his eyes and said, "Well, you just put the gear up and down, and try not to listen to anything we do over here!" So he let me slide without asking me any numbers or boldface, thankfully! It was beyond stupid but somehow they got away with it for years. |

Now I'm sure there were those back then that thought if this is the way we do it then it's the right way and only way... kind of like calling a trip a rotation. Glad there were enough to say no way.

There was a Delta guy in my Guard Unit, he got furloughed in 1993. About 6mo. later he and I are at the Guard getting ready to fly, they page him to the office. Delta Crew Scheduling is on the phone trying to find him, they want him for a trip tomorrow!
He told them he'd been furloughed for 6mo! I told him, "You should have said, 'No Problem, I'll be there..." and then flown the trip, then called ALPA and make them pay you for the full month! He said the only reason he didn't was, he was worried they would fire him if they ever found out he showed up and flew the trip. |

Wow...always amazed when the Feds would allow that kind of stuff to happen....when I got on the bus, I sat rsv from July to Dec and did not turn a wheel, asked for more OE...luckily I got it.

Come on Ice - surely you remember dual qual. After 5 months as MD-80 captain I was force temped to the DC-10 right seat for a month. Three bounces in the sim and off I went - dangerous!

Completely remember dual qual, it was stupid than and stupid now in whatever manner its done. The only protection is to have it spelled out explicitly in the PWA.
The fact of having to self-learn the A320 while still trying to consolidate on the 73N pretty well spells out "egregious" in my book.......I know, shut up and color........ Happy New Year, BG |

Boo. I guess I could just burn it onto a CD and give you a completion code for when you finish reading it in full.

It's complicated, but basically the ALV, >if< you're in training the whole month. Otherwise it's prorated depending on how much you're in training and what trips you would of been assigned.
