Ok, I could use a little help with these retirement plans... I have FOUR plans showing up at Fidelity, only two of them have $$ in them. I'll admit it, I'm confused as to what these plans are, why some have $$ and others don't. Please be gentle, I never had a 401k or pension or DC or any of this in the military, and the shorthand names for these things in all my reading is just confusing me more. Can anyone give a brief rundown on why 4 plans exist with two empty?

1. Delta Pilots Defined Contribution Plan (401k) -- has $$ in it, got $300 in 2012 so far.

2. Delta Pilots MPPP (401k) -- has $0 in it.

3. Delta Pilots Plan (401k) -- has $$ in it, got $50 in 2012 so far from employer contributions.

4. Delta Air Lines, INC. (401k) -- has $0 in it, no contributions


I keep reading " the Delta Pilots Plan" or "the DC plan", which don't match any of these names exactly... thanks.

Any short call over 12 hours should count as TWO SC periods. So - if an intl pilot sits three 24 hr SC calls, he would be done for the month. Of course, this whole problem will be self correcting in a couple of years

Philly is a tough city, and it usually leads the pack for homicides every year. Its so I don't even watch the evening news. On another note...Radio reports are that the police are all over it and they are getting close to an arrest. The city is mostly allright if you keep your wits about you, ...just don't take that short cut through a dark alley.

MPPP= Money Purchase Plan for Pilots, some FNWA pilots get this as it was part of their frozen benefit. So, unless you are a FNWA guy that should be 0. Are you getting this info from your pay stub, paper statement from Fidelity or the 401K website?

I think it is pretty hard to be properly rested and prepared for an entire 24 period,,,,,,ie: awake 12 hours, go to bed, phone rings 5 minutes later, 2 hours to show for a LONG trip......awake over 24 hours is not uncommon.

At my last gig, our POI ruled 24 hour reserve illegal and dangerous, so , only 12 hour reserve.....even for int'l bubbas.

So true, BG. I am floored that the 24 hour short call is allowed and has been permitted to stay. It's totally unsafe.

It depends which pre-merger group you are in, and then if fNWA it depends on WHEN you were hired.

I'll do my best:

1. Delta Pilots Defined Contribution Plan (aka DC Plan): For me, this is 9% in 2012 (I'm fNWA hired after the pensions were frozen) This can go a few percent this year depending on some funding level of the MP3 plan, but I don't really understand how tha works. I have a note to myself to look at this again in July as I think that's the first date the funding levels are reviewed for a contribution increase.

2. Delta MPPP (aka MP3, or NWA MP3): as previously described, this was a money purchase plan for fNWA guys. I'm not up on the details as it doesn't apply. If you don't fall into that category, don't worry about it.

3. Delta Pilots Plan (aka DPSP or Delta Pilots Savings Plan): For me is 2% this year, again as a 2008 hire. I'm not looking at my account right now, but I from memory I think this is also the account that my "employee" contributions go into.

4. Delta Air Lines Inc 401k: no idea on this one. Maybe some corporate type retirement acct that is somehow showing on your page.


All of this is broken down in the PWA under retirement, although it is somewhat hard to decipher. The first thing you need to do is find the appropriate section (again by pre-merger company and then by hire-date) and then figure out what contribution rates apply to you.

The "Delta Pilots Defined Contribution Plan" is DC Plan , and the Delta Pilots plan is the other one with money in it, I believe that one is also called DPSP (Delta Pilot Savings Plan). I only have those two accounts that you say have $$. Company puts 14% of your earnings into the DC plan, I can't remember what the other one gets. As for the difference between the two I don't really understand fully, so I too would appreciate someone on here to put in in Lehman's terms

Just to add a little bit more. Your retirement is broken into two sections on the 401k website: Delta Pilots DC Plan & Delta Pilots Plan. Each of the these can be funded by a few different sources.

Delta Pilots DC Plan can be funded by: Company Contributions or PMNW MPP Contributions.

Delta Pilot Plan can be funded by: 401K Pre-Tax (your elections), Company Contributions, PMNW Employer or PMNW Pilot Employer.

Clear as mud, I believe there are so many options for funding because of the merger of the plans for each group. Give ALPA a call for the details. Hope this helps.
