Johnso, it's not really that bad. I heard every line in the book about how loud the cockpit is, in the end I went back to a Plantronics earpiece. The newer 737's with the VG on the nose are as quiet as a 320 with it's hurricane force recirculation fans. As far as the size of the cockpit, PITFA small... I can't wait until the airside manuals go away and we actually have a place beside us for stuff. Being up there for 5 hours....

Any reserve folks seen the new "Reserve Availability List" format now available in iCrew? You can select any calendar day in the future and the page format associated with the new rules that take effect next month has LOTS of new information shown.

Over the next 4 years they plan on removing 40 757's from service. That number is flexible depending on the economy and demand. The 900 is the replacement. Same seating however total operating costs about 30 percent below the 757. The 900ER can fly 95 percent of the current 757 routes without any real capacity restrictions. The other 5 percent will eventually have to be covered with another airframe however some 757's are projected to remain in service until 2024 so there is a lot of time for deciding on that airframe. At the moment there is no airframe in production that can cover those routes. Think 5700 foot runway at SNA going with a full load and IFR reserves to Atlanta. Nothing can touch the 757 for those types of operations.

Why? Using the numbers above, if we have 100 737-900ER's coming, and 40 757's retiring, I can stomach that. Can't you?
I'm not saying I know how the trade will unfold, but using the numbers in the post you were responding to, I wouldn't shed a tear over a transaction that yields 60 new mainline airframes.

With the beautiful, light-weight noise cancelling headsets they make now, I don't understand why we can't get hot intercoms in the new Boeings. Fatigue is significantly influenced by noise, and so is safety.

I'm sure the company will find more main line jets to park as the 737-900's arrive. Got to keep stagnation in place. It also means more lower paying seats as the 737 pays less than the 757.
SWEET! So we will see DALPA open with 8% and perhaps settle into that 3-5% range. We win!! Thanks for the nice pin though.
