Since you seem unmoved by the math lesson given by DAL88, what about SWAPA's scope? Would you not be willing to take a little less in DC to achieve SWAPA's incredible scope?

Carl

I'd take their domestic scope, not sure about intl...

Surely there's a DVD/home option to cover that. ;)

Probably a thumb drive. I know where I'd like to stick that. When I went to MD school, it was all "You'll learn that on the line!" when answering questions about the FMS and VNAV, etc. I honestly don't think those guys had any idea how that stuff worked, as they had all been DC-9 instructors who just transitioned to the 88 when it came. Hell, there used to be guys who flew the 767 without the FMS, just dialed in the VOR's because that's how they did it on the 727. The DAL 767's had a lot of quirks that were only installed because #1 Delta was the launch customer and #2 The 727 had it-- so the 767 should too! Items such as a (redundant) analog radio altimeter (that coverplate by the primary altimeter is where it used to be), and switches to turn the anti skid system off (!!!).

Hey captainv,

Looks like you escaped Comair. Where is your greener pasture? :)

I did indeed! I'm at Atlas, on the 767, or as they call it, the "Light Twin"

Almost a 3-month wait for OE. Life is good.

FtB,

Even without the Airtran 73's, SWA has more than 500 737s, while Delta has 16 Whales and 16 777s. That's what you should focus on, the shear number of SWA pilots who get paid more than our 744/777 Captains. Unbelievable.

Now I'm in bucket 2 and probably won't fly for the rest of the month. Our senior pilots who have yet to fly will eventually be number 1 to go when everyone above them reaches bucket 2. They will then have to fly 8-9 days in a row as they will always be number 1 to go out. Now junior pilots will fly heavily in the first half of the month while senior pilots will fly heavily in the second half of the month. How is this better than what we had?...

I bid either low line holder or bottom third of the reserve list in my category. It seems to me, though, that if I WERE a senior pilot, I'd simply bid the last 12 days of the month off. All the junior pilots would fly their hearts out for the first half of the month, and when it became my turn in the barrel, I'd only have a few days of availability left. Did I miss something (probably!) or has this become a very nice reserve system for the senior pilots?

Just yanking your chain, T. Sort of. ;)

So tell me. How much of a pay increase do we need to make those numbers come out even or better?

Oh, and BTW... I totally get that theirs is a match and our is a contribution. You're right... I'd much prefer the contribution over the match. And when you factor in our brokerage link capabilities, yes, I would much rather have our retirement program. Fair enough?

You're too kind; he deserved worse.

We don't need to have a DFW base.....

..Spirit Airlines Adds New Service from DFW International Airport to Atlanta, Orlando and New York LaGuardia

Press Release: DFW International Airport – 7 hours ago
....
Ultra-low cost carrier growing again in its first year at DFW, announcing further expansion plans

DFW AIRPORT, Texas, Feb. 9, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Spirit Airlines today launched service to three new destinations from DFW International Airport, with flights to Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson International Airport (ATL), Orlando International Airport (MCO) and New York's LaGuardia Airport (LGA). The three inaugural flights today mark the first wave of a large planned expansion of offerings at DFW by Spirit Airlines.

Spirit not only doubled its DFW destinations today, the ultra low-cost carrier also announced it would launch service from DFW to Tampa International Airport (TPA) and Myrtle Beach (MYR) starting in early May, and that it has applied for government approval to connect DFW with Toluca, Mexico (TLC). Previously, Spirit had announced new service from DFW to Boston (BOS) and Phoenix-Mesa (AZA), which is scheduled to start in March.

"We welcome the addition of new Spirit Airlines service from DFW to Atlanta, Orlando and New York City, and we are pleased to see even more flights coming later this spring." said Jeff Fegan, CEO of DFW International Airport. "Spirit's tremendous expansion at our Airport means that DFW passengers will benefit from having more travel options and more choices to fly."

The first arrival from Atlanta into DFW was greeted with a traditional "shower of affection" water cannon salute from the DFW Department of Public Safety.

Spirit Airlines arrived at DFW less than a year ago with service to Fort Lauderdale and to Las Vegas, and then added Chicago Midway service soon thereafter.

"We are excited to be liberating even more customers from high fares as we continue to grow the number of cities we serve from Dallas/Fort Worth," said Spirit's Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Barry Biffle. "Our cheap base fares give consumers the opportunity to save money on travel, and our range of optional services for a fee allows customers the freedom to choose only the extras they value."

The added service from Spirit represents further proof of the Airport's ongoing momentum in developing new air service for the citizens of Dallas/Fort Worth. In the past 16 months, DFW has added six new passenger carriers, nine new international destinations and over 20 passenger air routes.

It will be good for DFW commuters. 2 jumpseats on each airbus---ATL--DFW.
