A friend just went to SJD (CABO) from LAX. He does this route, maybe 2-3x a year. First he told me that the flights are FULL, then he asked me why DAL does not do this route?

I told him we do, except our planes are painted in ALASKA colors. He told me he uses ALASKA almost all the time and that the flights are full and ticket prices are robust.

My question to the people in the know is: Are we morphing into a ticket broker? Is management getting wealthy by farming out our flying? Wouldn't management become more wealthy growing organically? I am getting a little concerned with the SKYTEAM paint also. COuld it be that SKYTEAM is the airline we are going to work for, in the future?

These are my main questions and concerns. Our outsourcing makes no sense to me. If the business is there, why dont we compete and take it away? Please Fire away!

Have you ever thought why AK has started flights to Hawaii from every city in the Bay Area and San Diego, and NOT the LA area where we fly to all of the Hawaiian islands? I wonder, just wonder, why we haven't stepped on their toes going down to Cabo or most of the Mexican Riviera cities? (I know we were doing PVR and we still do beautiful GDL). I don't know.......but....just sayin......??

We used to do LA-CUN also but AK does that now. We are doing LA to PVR again.

Mr. Bill,

You might be right, but I remember NWA did almost all of the flying AK is doing now. I think just recently, DAL/NWA were doing that CA/ANC/PDX/SEA-Hawaii flying. ALso didn't DAL announce SAN-OGG? then pulled it for AK?

I wish we could DO ALL THE FLYING! THen again, Im a pilot-->what do I know?

Max pick up only affects whiteslips. You only need FAR legal with buffer.
Same for taking a trip from the pilot-to-pilot board. What usually blocks you is capped reserve days. But put all you want in, because capped days change.

Easyswap works great, only downside is that it's for PCs. I use the *05 stuff alot but be careful what you ask for.

In a word, "yes." Our outsourced flying is more profitable than the work we perform ourselves.* As we further and further decouple from the value of our flying to this airline, I wonder when someone is going to ask the obvious the obvious question; "wait ... you want a raise based on the profits earned by another pilot group?"

It goes without saying that as Delta fails to invest in an efficient 100 to 130 seat jet, the ongoing cost of the inefficient Douglas jets will increase the pressure to outsource. We've got to get the right tools to compete.

* Delta's 10K suggests outsourced flying is responsible for 21% of revenue, but generates 47% of our operating profit. If true, this gives some idea of the cost to "take it back."

Perhaps Sailing, Slow, or Alpha will share the real numbers that helped reach the decision that was made in the Compass matter. It would be a very productive discussion.

Really? I just put in a swap and was denied "exceeds max pickup." if you're right, and I bet you are, I need to call scheduling.

CHina flying offered by VOR holdings. I would seriously think about an option like this if the Kids were gone I was over 55 and just wanted to try something different. It is China but it also makes one think! If only US airlines even paid close to this would be nice, but then again I have too many things stateside going on. Some of the work packages are interesting...
