Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
Just talked to a "Regional Manager" who attended a lounge show today and he said we are keeping the DC9s an extra year, but those pilots that were going to move from the DC9 to the incoming MD90s will now stay on the DC9s and now widebody FOs will be displaced (mainly in DTW off of 744 and 777) to staff those incoming planes. Some of those widebody FOs will probably hold Capt on those or the DC9s, but the rest could result in a trickle down. The bid should come in early March.

Yes, I believe that 50% + 1 from the pilot group is always a goal of Management. With that being said, I believe they can "reach that point" more easily with a group that doesn't have unity.
For example purposes, lets say that they see us as "non-unified" in the fight for DPA. Management then has their experts analyze the demographics, and/or priorities of the the "non-unified" group. (For easy math, lets use a number of 12000 pilots.)
All that management has to do is find the minimum %% pay raise for the group that most quickly totals 6000 pilots, and VOILA, they have the minimum required in the TA sent for MEMRAT to get a contract passed. (If they need the 50% + 1 pilot, they include in the TA that Forgot to Bid can remain on the 88/90 for his career.)
Using that same example, if we're a UNIFIED group, even though they can offer the minimum %% pay increase to possibly get the 6000 pilots on board, again, since we're UNIFIED, that 50% isn't going to vote for a TA in MEMRAT that has their minimum %% pay increase ONLY. They (unified group) are going to look at the entire package, and vote with what will be best for the entire pilot group and OUR PROFESSION.
Good day,

P.S. ALL CAPS not intended to be a disrespectful tone. Only the items in the context of the reply I see as most important.

I think you could make the argument just as easily that 2 distinct factions in the pilot group that are at odds with each other force the company to placate both camps instead of catering only to the majority camp. (I'm not talking specifically talking about pro- anti- ALPA here)
So the bottom line:
If the company believes the pilot group is determined, they are more likely to bring a better offer.
If there are major strong factions among the determined pilots, the company will need to address the majority concerns of each strong faction...
Unless the major make-or-break items between pro ALPA and pro DPA pilots are substantially different when it comes to the contract (I'm not sure they are) it will be our unity in determination that will get the maximum gains available. From my personal encounters with other pilots I'm getting the impression that even the most rah-rah cheerleader-types are getting ticked off and determined to capture some of that "pie"
Cheers
George
I should have gone the ALPA route with that beefy mustache. That is why I shouldn't be allowed to post before 8pm.
