There are three forms of quick long distance communication during contract negotiations:
(1) Telephone

(3) Tell a Line Check Airman

Fine.. then remain in the dark and speculate alongside Yahoo news. Have fun boys!

No way.... Flown with brakechatter, awesome individual... I always look forward to that name on my rotation. -chatter has done lots if work on behalf of our pilot group, definitely "one of the good guys".

Not my take, he's very bullish on Delta and the future and proud of his company. However!!!!! He constantly makes reference to AA/APA negotiations and says if they would have agreed to 4%/year when they started negotiations they would have already had 30%. There was also a lot of other info put out I am loathe to put on a public forum.

I'll throw out one impression that I had at the meeting... Ruggles is awesome!

I guess I'll jump in the fray... I've been ATL based all but 2 months at Delta. The 737 fleet seemed to have the highest number of CAs that did walkarounds, but there were many on the 767 fleet that did as well. I'm flying with more fNW guys now, and they seem less apt to do them. No biggie... I walk on board expecting to do one and it's a nice break if I get to not go outside every once in a while.

As far as walkarounds, I don't think it's a big deal if the captain does them or not. I'm hoping that if he or she doesn't do it, it's for a good reason.

At Northwest, the captain would:

1.) Get the paperwork at the gate. Work on it, hi-lite it, cut it, staple it, fill out the flight attendant briefing form, and leave the release with the agent.

2.) Brief the flight attendants.

3.) Check the logbooks (both of them)

4.) Then do the entire interior pre-flight.

5.) Fill out logbook post flight.

The FO would:

1.) Check logbooks (both)

2.) Fill out the ACARS initial page.

3.) Get the ATIS

4.) Get the clearance

4.) Do the walk-around.

Now, as I understand it, there is very little that is set in the way to do things. Just get the airplane from point A to point B, safely and legally.

Like you seem to be doing 80, I think everyone, from every seat, should use CRM and work things out. It shouldn't be that hard. No judgements.

We all know you wear one T-ba... I mean T Square :D

Spot on as always, newK. I knew that was the cultural precedent when I checked out on the fleet, and I really was just throwing my input in since everyone else seems to be talking about walkarounds.

I've got my routine that I do each flight and that includes a walkaround... if I happen to not have to do that, it's just a little bonus!

BTW, did that DC-9 that poo'd itself all over ATL today just find out that you bid off the fleet or something?

There is no better audience than the boy scouts at their Jamboree as they sit around the camp fire listening to stories from the scout master.

T, your imperiousness is unparalleled.

There is a Frank Burns in every group.

Then so it is. Benefit of doubt given. However, he was painting with awful broad brush strokes it appeared in his post.

"It seems indicative of the people we have hired since 9/11."

No need to start alienating sections of our group particularly when we need to stand shoulder to shoulder to firmly communicate what we need and expect.

Would be AWESOME for us in my opinion.

Yeah especially if USAir got it day one as well. That single issue fantasy adventure they're quagmired in is dragging everyone else down too to some degree.
