Okay, how bad off is UAL and USAir? I've been reading, hell I've been reading about UAL liquidating for seemingly 8-9 years now, so how bad is it this time?

Yes, 60 days is required by law & I believe our contract requires 90 days notice. But for now, we don't have to worry about either. ;)

The president of Delta Air Lines Inc. (DAL) unit Comair warned employees Monday to be prepared for more layoffs and furloughs, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported Tuesday. John Bendoraitis told workers in a companywide memo that the cuts are the result of Delta paring back operations in September, including a 20% reduction in Comair flights. Bendoraitis said that the number of layoffs hasn't been determined but that an announcement is expected in the next two weeks. Many of the layoffs will be made at JFK International Airport in New York, where Comair operates 60% of its flights, he said. Speaking of over staffed, has anyone come across another DAL pilot submitting a volunteer leave of absence request and it being approved? As a bottom guy who is looking at back up plans I'm curious as to the likelihood of getting approved if I submit one. Logic being if I'm offered a flying job with a military contractor (not active duty nor reserve--military contractor) that actually pays more in the near/mid- future than I could hope to earn with DAL I should take it rather than saying, "No, not interested." only to be furloughed at some point in the future. They told him he was needed even though he had just been displaced and hadn't started training yet. He has since resigned. I also looked into an LOA with the CP but got the same answer as you. Seems to me that you have to go through the process and officially ask for it to find out if they will accept it or not. |

Might need more new pilots in 18 months (not to say we would, but indicates that 's when something new might show up)?
Won't effect senior guys much (wouldn't be anything guys would skip retirement for)? He didn't bite on the MD-90's that someone else posted (although he did say that might happen too, not a big secret ). Plus MD-90's could also be just a sawp with 80's...not really a guarantee of growth. My money is now on exercising some options we have on 737's. |
