Um SEA is a base. As a pilot you can bid and hold SEA an a few different airframes. Now if you are talking about the flying protections that the other bases have and we made a carve out due to our code share with Alaska then that is another subject.

Yep. Austin is expanding their terminal in the next few years and adding several gates. Here's to hoping we snatch them up. And fine, it doesn't have to be a virtual domicile in Austin, it can be an actual one. :) Austin is growing like crazy. All the other large airlines have bases in Texas, we need a taste.

Sorry, I meant a domicile with the full protections of our others.

It's doable. I'm on the 7ER and still in my new hire freeze, so I can't currently switch my base to Atlanta. I'm flying a redeye from LAX-JFK tonight, and I'm two leg commuting it home through Atlanta with the jumpseat reserved on both legs, because that gets me home significantly faster than waiting for the direct Delta flight, and it gets me home 17 minutes faster than the direct JetBlue flight. I'm also listed for standby on the earlier flights out of JFK and ATL back to AUS, but I wasn't able to reserve the jumpseat on those. They are way oversold, and I'm 10th on the list on standby, so I'm probably not going to get on either one of those.

If I were on the 73N and living in Austin, I would bid for Atlanta if I could hold a line on it. ATL 73N B reg only is my sixth choice on my standing AE bid, because the commute would be easier.

Maybe something like:

ATL 73N B reg only
NYC 73N B reg only
ATL 73N B

I'm currently 73b in Atl, but can't hold a line yet. Making the move to Austin from my military location in a few months to be back close to family and friends. Hope I will be a line holder by then. What was your date of hire? I'm a June 2015 guy and about 12 numbers from a line on the atl73 in January.

You know you can move from base to base during your seat lock, right? I'm guessing ATL 7ER is just too senior for you.

I'm a May 2015 hire. It's a tough call. The last two lines of my standing bid are:

ATL 73N B reg only
NYC 73N B reg only

Unfortunately, they decided to quit backfilling the 7ER after they awarded it to me at indoc, so I haven't been able to bid out of NYC. There are a few guys junior to me on the 7ER in ATL, but I haven't been able to bid out of NYC so far.

Mike, did you mean "Hub"? Our scope protections have language about code sharing in/out of our "Hubs", not our domiciles. Right now, SEA is not a 'Hub' and we are still code sharing with Alaska in SEA.

As more Delta mainline flying is added to SEA, the code sharing with Alaska will be cut back, and hopefully in the next TA we will add SEA to our other 'Hub' cities.

Oh, and on the virtual base thing, you are right, the company wants it for several reasons; it would save them a bunch of money on hotels, crews deadheading, and manning. It would require fewer pilots, and save them money, just like everything else in the TA the company wanted.

Barring any displacements, as soon as your freeze comes up, you will be a line holder in Atl on the 73. Sucks to go through training again so soon, but would probably help your qol. Won't be long now. See you at the Austin airport in a few months, I'll be the one in the breakfast burrito line.
