As a QX pilot, I'll give you fair warning it's tough going between SEA and PDX...between Horizon commuters, Alaska commuters and then throw in Delta/Skywest/whoever else...it's a crapshoot. Horizon planes have 2 JS's and pilot's can take the aft (FA) JS...but it's tough between the Horizon FA's and then Alaska FA's (which have priority, on our planes...don't get me started on that).
That's been my experience in flying the route...many, many, many times...over the past 8 years. (The 'Couve is a pretty good area, I lived there when I was based at PDX...I liked it) |

How senior do trips to South America go on the 767ER (eg ATL to SCL)?
It's a bit more senior than where I'm at on the initial PBS run in their summer, but one or two will trickle down. Their winter, my seniority can do it a lot. |

I'm about 75-80% (in the bottom quarter) and I can get SA about half my month. Depending on the days I want to work, I could swap into it more.

Huh, interesting, thanks for the reply! I always assumed those trips to be super-senior.
Good layovers though. |

Layovers can be fun, but they all include 1-2 hour ride to/from the airport (GRU especially). ATC radios are horrible, starting in the Carribean (volume issues, no answers, echoes, etc). And the ITCZ means several hours of mod turbulence. I always arrived exhausted, slept most of the day, went out for drinks and dinner (only good part), spent most of day 2 resting for the all nighter home. Most of the guys that really liked it seemed to have a "special friend" down there!

So many posts to respond to. I wrote a book with like 10 quotes but decided it was way too long. I think I've heard enough to determine NYC is off the list. I was pretty sure it wasn't ever on the list in the 1st place but I wasn't terribly smart on it and didn't want to just dismiss it without putting zero thought whatsoever into the domicile. I think I would really like SEA but I'd be gone almost half the time and my wife has expressed a strong dislike of the constant drizzle up there for much of the year.
My biggest beef with ATL is the heat and humidity. Probably going to live on the south side which means our school options are fairly limited, private school is not an option. North side is nice, but not nice enough to counter the traffic of the north side. Also looking at Chattanooga -- perhaps a little risky sitting SC up there, a 2+ hour drive and still have to deal with the north side traffic, and lose the option of working at the training center but gain the benefits of no state tax and a cooler and less humid home. I wouldn't feel comfortable sitting short call in Chattanooga either. PM me and I'll give you my cell # if you want to know anything more about E/NE Cobb. |

Not at all, why do you like it?
I just looked on great schools and the high schools were listed at a 2 and 4 respectively which would be an automatic disqualifier. That actually sounds like a really good idea. I've heard Lake Martin is pretty nice too. |
Anybody here who commutes out of austin, what is the parking like? Do you use an airport employee lot or make a deal with a hotel? Any tricks of the trade?
