We are so far behind on hiring that the company hasn't a clue how to fix it other than asking our union for concession in this environment of record profits...

Its very captain gummy sadly he thinks he can run this pilot group like he did at the regionals he has worked for before. The best part is he can't even hold Captain on the airplane he currently flys Captain on... this its another failed attempt by mangmant to bypass seniority our PWA must remain intact.. and we will fight every instance they disregard it for operational needs... Just like the JV's...

Down with Gumm!
Can you give us a source for your numbers? The seniority lust shows about 410 pilots hired from the 7/22 class to 2 Feb. Those would all be pilots coming online after last summer.

Did you say source? You're asking for proof from someone dealing in hysterical rhetoric?

He garbled multiple memos into 1. The 165 is correct so far this year, but the number we care about is based from the September or October memo stating the number we will hire prior to summer then from that date to the end of 2020. The company has commented on this so much at different times that I can see the confusion some people have.

This sounds like Ryan Gumm himself writing
Who else in management call himself a captain, but cannot hold it?

JG needed an outsider to come in and do dirty work, all there is to it..

An outsider to be sacrificed in the name of good will with the pilots after this summer’s shortage and negotiations drag on causing widespread angst and yellow lanyard swinging pickets?

Look at the management pilots and the seniority list and you'll figure it out. Anyone who was hired specifically for a management position is like that. There's at least one in the safety department.

It's not like he can't hold captain anywhere either, it's normal for management pilots to fly whatever they want. There are a lot more important things to worry about then what pilots get bought off by a given management pilot. This is so standard across the industry you might as well complain about pilots having to preflight the aircraft.

I don't like the optimizer either, but whining about what aircraft he's flying is just petty and shows ignorance of standard practice. It's not like the management pilots who "can hold" a given seat actually fly trips they bid either.

that’s a great suggestion!
Besides p-56 gumm and safety guy who else is ”lots of management pilots who can’t hold captain”?

We crossed an important threshold where we are hiring from outside directly into fltops management without terms and it was never the case at Delta before. One had to earn it. Not sure what to think about it.
i think a decent thing to do for them is to stay FOs until they can hold left seat systemwide on the jet they are flying.

Its happened several times in the past. In 1986 we had a probationary new hire handling several top line projects for the company. A computer wis kid was hired who I don’t think ever flew the line a bit later.
