In the interest of full disclosure, Mantooth was paid FPL (I.e., our dues money) to organize and attend the ALPA golf tournament. I say again. We paid him to golf. He also set up and designed Canoll's campaign website.
Lest we think he's a neutral observer...He obviously has a vested interest in keeping the gravy train rolling smoothly.

But if I ever did learn to design one, I think my first one would be www.PDisamiserabletool.com!
Good try though. If you're going to make accusations, make sure they're accurate. Otherwise people might start to question the rest of the "facts" you spew.

Sorry everyone, but if I don't answer, then Tsquare and Professor will think they've won a prize or something.
Outside of Delta I work and consult for multiple companies on issues of aviation safety, training, accident investigation, disaster recovery, communications and civil litigation. My current position is 744A out of DTW. I've been an ALPA member since 1979 and have served on multiple committees including merger, communications, etc. I ran for LEC office twice and lost twice.

I have asked that question, and since he's not in a position to personally gain anything more than any (regular dues paying ALPA members) of us here it seems a simple answer: His motivation is to do what he can to keep the union as honest as possible. Now when I ask myself what's the motivation of those who want to squelch his input and minimize it I also ask, what's their motivation? It would seem they like the idea of opaqueness and keeping secrets from those of us who are not on the inside. Why is that? Personal connections; ambition for higher positions? Who knows, but I don't think they're as impartial as those who dare ask the questions that seem to get non-answers or deflections like "you don't understand the system" or "why don't you volunteer?" And before you ask, the answer is a dues paying member should be allowed to ask the questions he/she wants of the organization they're paying.

This whole mess of
-false sense of urgency(TVM!!!!!!!, at risk compensation!!!!)
-grievance settlements for pennies on the dollar with possible further rumored jv scope concessions
-contract givebacks in this time of record profits
-rushing into contracts before the amendable dates (2012 and 2015) to help the company more than to help us
- CDOs snuck in during 117 loas (only to be removed at a cost to us)
-there's nothing left on the table , followed by multibillion dollar stockbuybacks, airline purchases, etc
-pilot pushing with changes in the FOM wrt duty extensions with no peep from alpa
-contract surveys hidden forever in the secret government vault along with the arc of the covenant from raiders of the arc.
- council updates that sound like company releases
I guess i just have to learn to say "yes" just like Capt "historic contract " donatelli said..
disgusted

Dude. I apologized and stated name calling is still immature about 5 posts ago.
This is ridiculous. Read the TA if and when it comes out. Ask questions. Decide. Vote.
Most importantly aka your reps of they think any more value will be extracted by sending this back to section 6.
Please please please, everyone, ignore anyone trying to sell you anything.
Sell you DALPA= BAD or sell you TA NOW= ONLY WAY or any other sales job. Get the facts. Decide. And vote.

Good post. Good questions.
I can only point to process when it comes to questions of opacity. This is the process per out by laws at DALPA. To violate them would open the union up to all sorts of potential litigation. If the process is not followed anyone can claim malfeasance and go after the Union.
So I guess my point is that if there is opacity, and you don't like it, you need to press your reps to get that changed in the by laws.
Nobody would ever argue with the fact (or they shouldn't) that union leadership is beholden to the membership. In every way.
I would only offer this, Carl unlike many others has a potential conflict of interest with regards to DALPAs very existence. That is a different animal than keeping leadership responsible and looking out for OUR best interests.
Anyway. Good questions I think and worth addressing by all of us.
