That's exactly what I think. Hockey, our pov's rarely line up, but I'm with you on this. No pilot is under ANY obligation to take a FA jumpseat in order to accommodate another commuter. It's awesome if it happens, but shouldn't be the de facto (read "expected") norm.

I have volunteered many times on short flights but anything long sorry. Sat in the FA jump ATL-SFO once to get a VA guy on. Never again. Most umcomfortable ride ever, also most guys don't realize how in the way you are back there.

Are you even allowed to sit in the F/A jumpseat at your airline? At American, as far as I know only 1 of the 3 groups allow it.

My thought process is I have my seat, where everyone else sits is not my problem. If I don't have the cockpit, I non-rev and leave it in gate agent's hands. I have turned down early flights because I didn't want to sit in the flight attendant jumpseat to get myself on. Commute on your own airline if you have a problem with it. I would never ask someone at another airline to inconvenience themself so I can get on. I say you're selfish for even asking.

I can't remember, but wasn't it a same/similar thread as this one that get you the ban hammer not too long ago?

But sure, we can go along the lines of what you're saying above.

Wasn't it EVERY airline with exception of a certain airline that allowed JS'ing a long while back?

It was before your time at CHQ, then NWA, then DAL.

But imagine if back then EVERY airline treated a DAL pilot like DAL treated other airlines in regards to JS'ing? Most airlines extended the professional courtesy to DAL pilots, even though there was NO reciprocity.

Helping/looking out for others can be a tough concept to grasp for many.

Uncomfortable, cramp inducing, thigh to thigh with Bruce or Broomhilda, plus you are a human roadblock for everyone. It is a lot to ask for anything over an hour.

I gather that you are a jetBlue pilot and I'm sorry this happened to you but I've also had a jetBlue pilot tell me to get bent when the gate agent asked him to take an FA jumpseat (the other JS was being used by an LCA giving the Capt a line check or he would have given it to me) Turns out he was a former Comair guy and not real happy with Delta so he took it out on me. There is no telling what was going on but I'm with the rest of the guys, most of us will take the FA jumpseat in a heartbeat in order to help another commuter out.
