I see VBing the same as CDOs. Once the camels nose is in the tent, the next contract the company will want a concession on it for "efficiencies" and then we will regret ever entertaining the idea.

The company has to come to the realization that they have squeezed as much blood from the stone as there is. Anything more will increase sick leave. It's a direct cause and effect, pilots are tired from working too much and it's wearing us out. They are already seeing this but their answer is "work more"....Lunacy.

No more to give.

Is it just the ER in MCO where they're trying to save credit hours or are they looking at VBs in places like SFO, SAN, DCA, ORD, DFW similar to the FAs? Less people commuting may be good for everyone.

Sure..... and selling our vacation time is pay raises all around.

VB abrogates seniority. Is a productivity concession. And as has been pointed out.... is only the first step down a road to ruin.

Do you think it will take less pilots or more pilots if v basing is allowed? Hint, it's not more

Vacation sell back should be a non-starter, I agree. How do virtual bases abrogate seniority? I think it would come down to how it's done as Scoop mentioned earlier.

You think vacation sell back is a non starter? Well just as you might find VB appealing...... there are pilots who view selling the time off as likewise 'good all around'. You wouldn't be a commuter by chance?

Management is currently free to open bases wherever they want.

We already provide generous co-domicile accommodations.

We already allow operations like sea. I don't get it.....

And somehow we still are trying to 'solve' their problems?

Are you against commuters? There are a lot of people stuck in former domaciles not by choice. Maybe we're trying to solve our problems and not theirs.

I don't think he's got anything against commuters, I think he's pointing out your logic is inconsistent based on what is likely personal gain for you. If VB is fine, then how could you not see that vacation sellback might be fine for somebody else? Why would that be a nonstarter?

I don't have strong opinions on either of these topics when observed in a void and out of context. I just don't think we need to be making concessions in this economic environment, and both of these issues increase productivity which is a definite concession.
