As I have stated before, our contract is filled with concessions forced upon us in bankruptcy. Concessions far beyond what was needed. Over $15 Billion and counting by my accounting.
Bastian is returning "at least 70% of free fast flow to the shareholders." $3,850,000,000.
Why are we discussing concessions?
All of our concessions from bankruptcy need to be restored and then we need to make major gains.
This whole thing is going to turn around 3 reps in Atlanta. Sam DeRosa, Scott Martin and Chris Kern. I love what Sam said in the Roar and what Scott promised on this forum. Will they back it up with action? Or will they cave to more unnecessary concessions?
Will they vote yes for more 76 seat jets at DCI?
Will they vote yes to pay, no credit vacation?
Will they vote yes to JV scope that brings the company into immediate compliance?
Will they vote yes to selling vacations?
Will they vote yes to reducing profit sharing?
Will they vote yes to a witch hunt on sick leave weakening our current language?
Call them, write them, meet them in the crew lounge. Print the 8k and ask them why we would make concessions. Tell them.
NO CONCESSIONS
WE HAVE GIVEN ENOUGH FOR 2 LIFETIMES, NO MORE!

Fortunately..... they are not the approving electorate for whatever results from this process.
Absent an equitable agreement, with genuine 'net' improvements, my impression is this group has the capacity to again turn it down.
Selling time off isn't even in the same universe with that metric.

We have all been working extra since bankruptcy and we are tired. This contract must contain a great deal of quality of life and that is more days at home, not less.

I'm not sure if these whiffs of vacation sell and virtual basing are deliberate trial balloons or what, but if they are legitimately on the table and being entertained by the NC and MEC........it is time to light the torches.
Again.
Again.

I hope none of those productivity concessions turn out to be true but if they do, you can see that the company caused themselves to be short handed right now, starting back in 2012, when they made the corporate decision to -not- hire for another year, in an effort to show greater earnings and drive the stock price up.
Just like when they outsourced half our domestic flying to RJ's, then couldn't staff them, they created this problem, now they once again, expect us to fix it for them, by working more, for less.
I'm a solid NO vote for any more -help- for the company, until the company solves MY 18% pay and no DB problems first. That's OUR MONEY they are going to use to buy back stock, and yet they still expect us to solve their self induced staffing problems?
FUPM!

Is virtual basing a concession? Seems like something that would be a huge QOL improvement for many.

No concessions.
It's just that simple.
Management made none.
Other employees made none.
Other pilots (United and American) made none.
The longer this goes the more risk they add to the business.

The perceived QOL improvement is you can drive to work in a virtual base instead of commuting. The reality is it's the same trip without the deadhead pay and credit to/from ATL, DTW, etc. We are giving up a positive space commute with pay. If traded for improvements in other areas, it may provide a value to both sides.

I concur. The devil is in the details with this issue. If we go this route, not saying that we should, we should ensure a trial period in which either side can terminate the program at will. This will give DALPA a chance to analyze the unintended consequences which are a given, and may be detrimental to the Pilots.
